Chapter 79
Natasha’s POV

“No. Just that he wants to talk. Properly. Without everyone around.”
Davelina was quiet for a long moment, thinking.
“That’s dangerous,” she said finally. “It could be a trap. He could be planning to-”
“I know,” I interrupted. “But what choice do I have? If I don’t go, he’ll expose me. And then we’re both dead.”
“True.” She sighed. “Just… be careful. Extremely careful. Take a weapon if you can. And if anything feels wrong-anything at all-run.
Don’t worry about the consequences. Just run.”
I nodded. “I will.”
We sat together for a while longer. Until the light coming through the narrow windows began to dim.
Evening was approaching.
“You have to go to Fergus tonight,” I said quietly. “Don’t you?”
Davelina nodded. “He commanded it. If I don’t show up-”
“I know. But after everything that happened today-after what they did to you-you’re in no condition to-to-
“To fuck him?” Davelina’s laugh was bitter. “No, I’m not. But that’s not going to stop it from happening.”
“Maybe he’ll be gentle,” I said desperately. “Maybe he won’t-*
“Natasha.” She looked at me with tired eyes. “He’s a Lycan Lord. He claimed me. Tonight, he’s going to use me however he wants. There’s no avoiding that.”
“But-”
“At least it’s not Sebastian,” she interrupted. “At least it’s someone different. Someone who might- She paused. “I don’t know. Maybe Fergus will be less cruel. Maybe.”
She didn’t sound convinced.
“I don’t want you to go,” I said. Tears were threatening again. ‘I don’t want them to hurt you anymore.”

“I don’t want it either, Davelina said. “But we don’t get to choose. We just have to survive.”
She stood up slowly, wincing with every movement. I helped her, steadying her when she swayed.
“I should go,” she said. “Rest a little before-before I have to go.”
We walked back to the Lucy’s quarters together.
It was empty. Lucy still hadn’t returned.
Davelina lay down on her cot, face down to avoid putting pressure on her back. I sat beside her, holding her hand.
Time passed. The light faded. Night fell.
And then we heard them.
Heavy footsteps in the corridor. Getting closer.
Davelina’s hand tightened on mine.
The door opened.
Two Lycan guards stood in the doorway-both large, both armed, both looking at Davelina with cold efficiency.
“You,” one of them said. “Davelina. Lord Fergus has requested your presence. Come with us. Now.”
“No,” I said. The word came out before I could stop it. “No, she can’t. She’s hurt. She needs rest. She-*
“We don’t care,” the guard said flatly. “Lord Fergus wants her. That means she comes. Now.”
I moved to stand between them and Davelina, my arms spread wide.
“You can’t take her,” I said desperately. “Please. She’s injured. She can barely walk. Just give her one night to recover. Just one-
“Move aside, boy,” the guard said.
“No!”
The guard sighed. Then, faster than I could react, he stepped forward and drove his boot into my stomach.
The impact knocked all the air from my lungs. I flew backward, hitting the wall hard, then crumpling to the floor.
Pain exploded through my body. My vision went white, then dark, then white again. I couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t think. Could only curl up

and gasp like a fish out of water.

“I said move,” the guard said calmly. “We’re not here to negotiate. We’re here to bring the woman to Lord Fergus. And we will. Whether
you’re alive or dead doesn’t matter to us.”
Through the haze of pain, I saw Davelina struggle to her feet.
“Don’t,” she said to the guards. Her voice was stronger now. Angry. “Don’t touch him again. I’m coming. Just-leave him alone.”
“Finally, the guard said. “Some sense.”
He grabbed Davelina’s arm roughly. She cried out as his fingers dug into her bruised flesh.
“Don’t- I tried to say. Tried to get up. But my body wouldn’t respond. The pain was too much.
“Wait!” Davelina said as the guards started pulling her toward the door. “Please, just-can I say goodbye?*
The guards exchanged glances. Then one of them shrugged.
“Make it quick,” he said.
Davelina pulled free and dropped to her knees beside me. Her hand found my face, turning it toward her.
“Natasha, she whispered. Using my real name. “Listen to me. I’ll be fine. Do you understand? I’ll be fine.”
“No I gasped. ‘I can’t-let them-
“You don’t have a choice,” she said firmly. “Neither of us do. But I’ll survive this. Just like I’ve survived everything else.”
Tears ran down her face.
“You stay safe,” she continued. “Be careful. Don’t do anything stupid trying to rescue me. Just-just survive. That’s all I ask. Survive until
we can both get out of here.”
“Davelina-
