Venerable Demon King & The Doting Immortal (QT) novel Chapter 305

Chapter 305: A mole in Yu Yu’s camp

Xiang Yu was in excruciating pain, but he gritted his teeth and got up from the floor with a straight face as if he hadn’t just been beaten.

The Imperial Lord stood by the window of the grand hall, looking majestic and imposing, as though he hadn’t just struck his son. He glanced down at his fingers, rubbing them together thoughtfully. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

"I heard the Wu alpha girls came to see you," the Imperial Lord said, his voice calm but probing.

Xiang Yu stiffened, staring at his father’s back, struggling to contain the rage simmering beneath the surface. If the Imperial Lord dared to touch Lian and Mei, Xiang Yu wouldn’t hesitate to end him right then and there. As though sensing the hostility, the Imperial Lord turned around, only to see his son looking at him calmly.

"Yes, I have been trying to befriend them, and I finally managed to invite them as guests to my palace," Xiang Yu replied, his voice steady.

The Imperial Lord smiled slightly. "From what I heard, they were quite... enthusiastic."

Xiang Yu realized he had a mole in his camp, someone feeding information not only to Peng Xiu but also to his father. He forced a smile. "Yes, I found out that they love mech designs, and they especially liked Grandmaster Zie’s work. They were quite excited."

The Imperial Lord seemed to believe him. He chuckled. "That old man’s mech designs are truly impeccable. Good job. Now let’s see if that old coot will dare act arrogant around me." By "old coot," the Imperial Lord was referring to Lian and Mei’s grandfather, former Marshal Wu. "I knew I made the right choice when I made you heir. Keep up the good work."

Xiang Yu bowed to his father, his back in excruciating pain, sweat dripping down his forehead and nape, but he didn’t show it on his face. The Imperial Lord sat down on his throne and said, "You may leave."

Xiang Yu turned and walked away, each step a testament to his strength and determination. The Imperial Lord watched his son go, a smile growing wider on his face. This was the heir he wanted, and it seemed Xiang Yu was finally coming out of his cocoon and demonstrating the abilities of the future heir of the Republic.

Xiang Yu pushed the door open, his movements deliberate despite the pain coursing through his body. The palace staff member he had handed his shirt to earlier stood waiting, head lowered, unable to look at the gruesome wounds on Xiang Yu’s back. "Here is your shirt, Your Majesty," the man said, his voice trembling slightly.

Xiang Yu didn’t want anyone to know that the healing capsule was out of commission because he had used it for Han Xin. Besides, he wanted to feel the pain Han Xin had endured when he wasn’t allowed to use the healing capsule. This was his penitence, his redemption. He shook the steward off and supported himself against the wall. "You should be focused on finding who is feeding information to my father and half-sister behind my back."

The steward, loyal to Xiang Yu, was shocked and came to a standstill. It couldn’t be him who was selling out Xiang Yu and informing them of his every move. Xiang Yu walked away, saying, "You have twenty-four hours. I need names and their backgrounds. Oh, and don’t forget to send in the doctor."

The steward quickly returned to himself and bowed. "Yes, Your Highness," he said before turning to leave.

Xiang Yu continued to his room, each step excruciating. He pushed the door open, and Lian and Mei caught him before he fell forward. "Master!" they exclaimed, helping him onto the bed. Xiang Yu tried to put on a reassuring smile, but the pain was too much, and his head was spinning. He fell flat on the bed, lying on his stomach. "I am really fine, just don’t be sad," he said, his voice weak.

Lian and Mei were panicking. They had seen their master like this before, but never with such a defeated air around him. The doctor, an older man with a wise face, rushed in. "Cut it off! Why did he wear his shirt? It will only make things worse."

The room turned into chaos as the doctor attended to Xiang Yu’s wounds. Several times, he attempted to convince Xiang Yu to go to the medical room and into the healing capsule, but Xiang Yu refused. Unable to bear the responsibility of the Imperial heir dying in his hands, the doctor said, "I will inform his majesty. Your Highness, maybe he can talk some sense into you."
