When she felt dizzy, Lian and Mei tried to change the location to the port, but the woman got up on her feet and tried to stop them.
The woman refused to go down, so they had to knock her out, which was incredibly difficult. As soon as she was knocked out, they parked the hovercar in front of a hospital that was along the way, then drove off, activating stealth mode.
Even though she was passed out, they weren’t sure that she would stay like that for long, so they stopped the hovercar outside the port area and ran the rest of the way to this hangar. They left their communicator to prevent the old man from tracking them.
Xiang Yu spun the captain’s chair, a playful grin on his face, only to find Lian and Mei sprawled on the floor, gasping for air. His grin vanished, replaced by concern. "What happened to you two? Did you fight a bear?"
"A bear?" Lian wheezed, pushing herself into a sitting position. "It was more like a tiger!"
Mei, still lying prone, groaned. "Master, I think I pulled a muscle," she managed, her voice strained.
Xiang Yu quickly rose and fetched them some water. They accepted the cups gratefully, murmuring simultaneous "thank yous." He allowed them a few sips before gently asking, "How do you feel? Better?"
Lian nodded, while Mei cautiously sat up, wincing. "You have to get up," Xiang Yu urged. "We have to go before they find out you’re gone."
Lian and Mei exchanged a look before slowly getting to their feet. They settled into their seats, buckling their safety belts.
"Master," Mei asked hesitantly, "do you even know how to drive this thing?"
"Yes," Xiang Yu replied confidently, a hint of amusement in his voice, "but Hex can take over as well."
As if on cue, Hex materialized in its fluffy cat-bat form, fluttering around the cockpit. "Don’t worry, Yu Yu!" Hex chirped. "I am very experienced! Buckle up!"
"Master, Hex is so cute!" Lian exclaimed, her eyes sparkling. "Can I have it?"
Hex, sensing the shift in the conversation, darted behind Xiang Yu, its fluffy body trembling slightly. Lian’s smile, however, was less cute and more unsettling.
Xiang Yu, recognizing the glint in Lian’s eyes, chuckled. "Sure," he said smoothly, "if Hex wants to go with you."
Hex shook its head vehemently, disappearing completely into the folds of Xiang Yu’s clothing.
"I want it too!" Mei chimed in. "Hex, do you want to come with me?"
Hex burrowed deeper into Xiang Yu’s clothes, clearly not interested in being anyone’s pet other than Yu Yu.
Their faces, illuminated by the flickering light of the screens, were etched with worry and grim determination. They were watching the adjudication, the proceedings that would decide the fate of their world. Every word spoken, every decision to be made, held the potential to either fan the flames of war or extinguish them before they consumed everything.
The grand hall of the Republic Court was filled with a sense of gravitas, its vaulted ceilings and imposing architecture creating an atmosphere of solemnity. Important leaders from across the Republic gathered in the viewing galleries, their faces etched with curiosity and concern as they awaited the adjudication.
At the front of the hall, the Councillors of the Republic sat in their high seats, looking down with an air of authority. Each councillor wore ornate robes, the insignia of their office gleaming in the light. Seated nearby were members of the noble families, their expressions a mix of pride and apprehension.
The current Marshal, along with several overseers responsible for various planets under the Republic’s jurisdiction, occupied seats of honour, their presence a reminder of the Republic’s power and reach.
Standing alone before the Councillors was Marshal Wu, his posture upright and resolute. The once-revered leader now faced a barrage of questions and criticisms. The Councillors demanded that he hand over the former Imperial Lord to the court for trial, their voices laced with disapproval as they criticized him for allowing Xiang Yu to escape.
Marshal Wu stood silent, enduring their censure without complaint. His stoic demeanour betrayed none of the turmoil within. The Councillors’ words cut deep, each accusation like a blade. They brought up his granddaughters, accusing them of aiding Xiang Yu’s escape. The demand to hand them overhung heavily in the air.
One of the Councillors, a sharp-tongued woman with piercing eyes, spoke up. "Oh, that’s right. They ran away with the traitor. Marshal, are you protecting them from the consequences?" Her words dripped with disdain.
The murmurs of agreement from the assembled citizens grew louder, a chorus of nodding heads and humming voices. Marshal Wu felt the weight of their judgment pressing down on him. His fists clenched in frustration, the only outward sign of his inner struggle.
