The medical bay hummed, a low, constant thrum that was soothing. The soft, diffused light, designed to minimize glare and maximize comfort, reflected off Xiang Yu smooth skin, highlighting the delicate tracery of medical probes clinging to his chest. He sat shirtless. He appeared relaxed despite the setting.
Lian who was sitting on the edge of a chrome bench, couldn’t contain his curiosity. "Master, you look like you just came from a fight."
Mei smacked Lian’s hand. "Don’t be rude."
"What? It’s the truth!" Lian yelped, rubbing her hand. "He looks like he got pinched... a lot." She gestured vaguely at the small, red marks left by a certain mosquito.
Xiang Yu chuckled, a low rumble in his chest. "Perhaps I did... get pinched a lot." He wasn’t about to elaborate on the rigorous training regimen he and Han Xin had.
Doctor Bai with perpetually flustered cheeks, approached the console, his eyes darting between the readings and Xiang Yu. He had been glancing at Xiang Yu with a mixture of professional curiosity and something akin to bewildered awe ever since he approached.
Xiang Yu, sensing the his unease, raised an eyebrow. "What’s wrong, little Bai?" Doctor Bai didn’t know how to feel being called by his nickname by Xiang Yu.
He never thought there would a day like this where he would chat informally with Xiang Yu. Honestly, from Xiang Yu’s past behaviour and ill treatment of Han Xin, he had always assumed that Xiang Yu would be locked up somewhere as soon as Han Xin’s ascended to the throne.
Instead, Han Xin had risked everything to retrieve him, treating him not as a prisoner, but as his Imperial Empress .
"Are you sure you’re feeling fine?" Doctor Bai asked, his voice a little higher than usual.
"Yes, why? Is there something wrong?"
"No, no," Doctor Bai stammered, his fingers dancing over the console. "It’s just... your readings are... interesting. You seem to have differentiated into an omega, but your body retains the stats of an SSS alpha. It’s... unusual."
"Maybe it’s because I am a mutant," Xiang Yu said, a playful glint in his eyes.
Doctor Bai’s eyes widened. "Mutant, huh?" He paused, his expression turning thoughtful. "That’s... fascinating. Do you mind if I study you? Your genetic makeup could provide new insights..." frёeωebɳovel.com
Xiang Yu laughed, a deep, resonant sound. "You really can’t take a joke, can you?" He reached out and ruffled Doctor Bai’s hair, a gesture of affectionate teasing. "You are too serious, little Bai."
Just then, the door slid open, and Han Zhan strode into the medical bay. His eyes, sharp and possessive, immediately locked onto the scene before him. He saw Xiang Yu, shirtless and smiling, touching Doctor Bai.
A low growl rumbled in Han Zhan’s throat. Before anyone could react, he surged forward and pulled Doctor Bai away from Xiang Yu, his grip surprisingly firm.
Xiang Yu’s eyebrow arched, a silent question hanging in the air. Doctor Bai, his hair now standing on end from Xiang Yu’s ministrations, glared at Han Zhan, a mixture of indignation and confusion on his face. "What was that for?"
"No touching," he said, his voice a low reprimand, the kind he reserved for new recruits.
Han Zhan’s gaze flickered back to Xiang Yu, who was now engaged in a seemingly casual conversation with Lian and Mei. He leaned closer to Doctor Bai, covering half his mouth with his hand. "I think he is a vixen," he whispered, his voice barely audible. "He might bewitch you."
"I have good hearing," Xiang Yu said, his voice cutting through the hushed tones with startling clarity.
Lian nodded, her eyes twinkling. "Yeah, Master can hear you even if you are just mouthing your words."
"He can even hear what you are thinking," Mei added, her voice a soft echo of Lian’s.
Han Zhan’s lips tightened into a thin line. He was about to retort when the spacecraft suddenly vibrated, a jarring tremor that sent a wave of instability through the medical bay.
The five of them stumbled, caught off guard.
Doctor Bai, caught off balance, fell directly into Han Zhan’s arms, who instinctively wrapped his arms around him protectively. Xiang Yu, with a swift, almost effortless movement, steadied Lian and Mei, preventing them from falling.
As the vibrations subsided, Han Zhan’s voice was thick with concern. "Are you okay?" he asked, his eyes searching Doctor Bai’s face.
Doctor Bai, his voice slightly breathy, nodded. "I am fine. And you?"
