Tim sighed, looking at Ashley.

She was taking notes, showing no reaction to the news of Chase forming a team for Tanya.

He patted her head.

She swatted his hand away. Don’t touch me.”

He breathed a sigh of relief.

Her calm tone suggested she was no longer bothered.

Chase arrived with Zark and Ethan, who were both surprised to see Ashley and Tim. Ashley remained impassive. Chase greeted them politely. Thank you all for your hard work.”

George said, ‘Mr. Sterling, should we start…”

“One moment. I need to wait for someone,” Chase checked his watch. “I’ll go upstairs. Please wait.”

Ashley knew immediately he was waiting for Tanya. The test would begin only after Tanya’s meeting. Tim, realizing this, almost called Chase names.

Chase and Tanya soon descended, accompanied by Catherine. She wasn’t surprised to see Ashley here-Tanya had informed her. Seeing Ashley, Chase’s wife, waiting like a subordinate, Catherine smiled with sarcasm and triumph.

Ashley ignored Catherine’ and looked away. Tanya apologized politely.”Sorry for the delay.” Her apology was directed at Jeffery, Tim, and the others-pointedly excluding Ashley.

Jeffery, not focusing on Ashley, said, “It’s okay. It’s only a few minutes.”

Aren’t you generous?” Tim said coolly.”Now that you’re here, let’s not waste any more time.”

Chase said politely,”Our apologies, Mr. Reed. Please.”

Tim, scoffing, pulled Ashley out of the meeting room. Chase glanced at them, seemingly unfazed. Zark, however, looked at them for a moment longer.

Chase and Tanya were clearly the center of attention.

At the test track, a staff member said, “Mr. Sterling, Miss Mond, we’re ready.”

His deference towards Tanya was unmistakable.

“Go, Chase said.

They watched the test on the monitors. After a successful run, the staff member asked if Chase and Tanya wanted a test drive. Chase agreed; they got into the same car. The monitors showed them chatting happily, their gazes full of love.

Ashley watched impassively. Tim was visibly disgusted.

Ethan wanted a test drive, but Catherine approached Zark first.”Mr. Green, we…”

He said directly, Enjoy yourself, I’m not interested.” Catherine was stunned.

George walked to Tim and Ashley.”Mr. Reed, Ms. Jones, would you like a test drive?”

They knew the car better than most Speed staff, but after what they’d just seen, they had no interest.

Tim snorted.”No.”

Ashley smiled, whispering the car’s engine specs to him.”Are you sure you don’t want it?”

He glared, then asked, “How do you know that?”

She touched her nose.”I accidentally saw their data.” A good memory had its advantages.

His mood improved. Replicate it later.”

“Okay.”

They left after half an hour. Chase said, “Thanks everyone. Dinner?”

Jeffery agreed Tim scoffed. “Sorry, we’re busy. Take your time.”

Chase said, “Another time, then.” He instructed George to see them off.

Tim left with Ashley.

Benjamin whispered to Jeffery, “Tim really dislikes Mr. Sterling and the others, doesn’t he?”

Jeffery had noticed this at their previous encounter.

He’d thought he was overthinking, but apparently not..

Leaving Speed, Tim remained furious. He asked Ashley, “Who was that woman behind Tanya in the business suit? She gave you a nasty look. Do you

know her?”

Tanya’s cousin, Ashley replied.

Tim sighed. Chase brought Tanya to Speed, and now her family? At this rate, Speed will be hers.”

Ashley agreed. Given Chase’s devotion to Tanya, giving Speed to her wouldn’t surprise anyone. Hiring a Holden was nothing.

Tim decided to drop it, knowing further discussion would only fuel his anger.

That evening, working on replicating the engine specs, they returned home very late. It started snowing on the way. Ashley was about to shower when her phone rang. It was Chase. Ignoring it, she went to shower. She later found two missed calls and a message about Sam’s parent-teacher meeting. She replied: I’m busy tomorrow.

Sam was playing with Chase’s phone, and he saw the reply.”Daddy, Mommy’s busy. Can Aunt Tanya go to my parent-teacher meeting?”

Chase nodded.

“Yay!” He jumped up and down.

He said, “Daddy will be there too.”

I know! Aunt Tanya’s coming, so you will come too!”

The next day, while Ashley was discussing work with Charlie at Eternal, her phone buzzed. It was Sam’s teacher.

“Mrs. Sterling, won’t you be attending Sam’s parent-teacher meeting?”

Ashley replied, “I have other plans.”

Moments later, she got another message.”Sam’s father came with another woman today…”

A photo accompanied the message. Chase and Tanya were sitting together, Sam nestled against Tanya.
