“You too, Mark replied.
Before he could say more, Miranda and Mary approached. “Mark, Vivian, do you know these young men?” They’d noticed that Ashley knew Jeffery.
Mark smiled. This is Mr. Jeffery Cooper. He’s a friend of Tanya and Chase. This is Mr. Benjamin Hunter, Mr. Cooper’s friend.”
“Oh, I see.”
After exchanging pleasantries, Jeffery and Benjamin went inside to deliver their gifts. They encountered Tim, unsurprisingly.”Mr. Reed, hello.” Etiquette was the most important thing on such an occasion.
Tim replied curtly, “Mm-hm.”
Matt emerged, giving Tim a cup of tea, and greeting Jeffery.”Did you guys just get here?”
Yes, Jeffery said. “Where’s your grandfather?”
He’s chatting with a friend. He’ll be out later. Would you like to sit?”
“Okay, Jeffery agreed.
Tim kept looking at his watch, worried about Ashley and her grandmother. Matt noticed that. “Mr. Reed, in a hurry?”
Tim said, “…I just have a few things I need to take care of.” Leaving before seeing Vincent would be impolite, but he couldn’t stop worrying about Ashley.T’m sorry, I’ll be right back.”
Matt didn’t mind.”It’s okay.”
Tim left. Jeffery guessed he was going to find Ashley. Matt suggested, “Grandpa’s gonna be talking to me for a while. Why don’t you step outside for some fresh air?”
Jeffery remembered Mark mentioning Chase and Tanya’s attendance. He stood up.”Okay. Text me when your grandfather is free.”
“Sure.”
Jeffery and Benjamin left. As they stepped outside, Zark and Ethan arrived. The Monds and Holdens greeted them immediately. Zark shook hands with Mark
Ethan looked around. “Where are Chase and Tanya? They haven’t…” Then, he spotted Ashley.”Damn it!” What was she doing here?
Zark, noticing Ethan’s reaction, saw Ashley. His eyes deepened.
Tim approached Ashley and Amanda. Zark turned to Ethan and Mark.”I’m going to say hello.” He left.
Mr. Reed, Ms. Jones,” Zark greeted them.
They turned. Tim responded, “Hello, Mr. Green.”
Hearing that, and remembering conversations with Henry and Steve, Amanda gave Zark a few extra looks. Zark greeted her respectfully. “You must be Ms. Jones’ grandmother. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
The pleasure is all mine, Mr. Green,” she smiled.
The Monds and Holdens had assumed Zark was greeting someone important, but it turned out to be Tim and Ashley. Tim was somebody, but Ashley and her grandmother…
Seeing Zark’s respectful demeanor towards Ashley and her grandmother, Mary looked at Ethan. “Mr. Smith, what’s going on…”
Ethan explained, “Zark and Tim have an important business relationship. Ashley holds significant sway at Eternal. Tim nearly vetoed Zark’s proposal because of Ashley. For business reasons, Zark set aside personal feelings and maintains a civil relationship with her.”
