Chapter 26
Seeing him look towards the bathroom, Sam said, “Mom’s showering.”
“Hmm. Chase asked, “Did you ask her to shower here?”
‘No, she came here herself.”
Chase didn’t ask further. He said goodnight, and then left. Ashley heard him but didn’t hear their conversation.
Sam, still unwell, was sleepy after his medicine. After the shower, Ashley lay down with him. He snuggled into her. “Mom, you smell so good.” He preferred her embrace to Tanya’s, but he didn’t say it.
Sam fell asleep quickly; Ashley, tired, fell asleep too.
Mer
Sam kicked his covers all night. Ashley woke several times to cover him. When she woke up, Sam was still asleep. She saw Chase jogging downstairs. H usually ran for an hour. After washing up, she went to make breakfast.
Half an hour later, she gave the rest of the work to the butler. Ensuring Sam wasn’t feverish, she went upstairs for her bag and keys. Then, she left.
Soon, Sam woke and asked, “Where’s Mom?”
The butler answered, “Mrs. Sterling went out.”
Sam pouted.”Oh…”
The butler smiled.”But she prepared your breakfast.”
Sam cheered up. He ate breakfast after getting up. Chase came downstairs. Seeing Ashley was gone, he asked the butler, “Where’s she?”
“She went out.”
Chase didn’t ask further.
Ashley went home, ate, and packed her laptop and essentials. She was about to go to work when the doorbell rang. It was Mrs. White and her daughter, Kelly.
Ashley opened the door.”Mrs. White…”
Mrs. White was anxious. “Kelly’s grandmother is sick; I need to take her to the hospital. Can you take Kelly to school?”
Sam and Kelly went to the same kindergarten, which was on the way to her office.
Ashley agreed.
Twenty minutes later, near the kindergarten, Ashley saw Chase, Tanya, and Sam. Sam looked happy; he and Tanya were holding hands. Chase stood beside them, shielding them from traffic.
Kelly saw Sam. Aunt Ashley, it’s Sam!”
Ashley lowered her eyes.”Yes, I saw him.”
“Who’s the pretty aunt with Sam? Is she his mom too? Does he have two moms?”
Ashley didn’t answer. She touched Kelly’s head, saying, “Don’t tell Sam that, okay?”
Kelly nodded. Sam had been angry with her before because she hugged Ashley. He often glared at her… Chase, Tanya, and Sam looked like a happy family. Ashley thought it was good.
After Chase and Tanya left, Ashley took Kelly out of the car. Sam’s teacher knew Ashley was Sam’s mother. Seeing Sam with Chase and another woman, she thought Ashley was too busy to come. But the next second, she saw Ashley with Kelly.
She was confused. “Mrs. Sterling, you and Kelly…”
‘Mrs. White had an emergency; she asked me to bring Kelly here.”
‘Oh,’ The teacher sighed in relief, “But Sam was just here…”
I know. Ashley smiled.
The teacher was confused but didn’t ask further.
After leaving the kindergarten. Tim called. “When will you arrive?”
In ten minutes.”
“Okay
Tim was waiting for her at Eternal. He hugged her. “Welcome back.”
Ashley smiled and hugged him back.
Meanwhile, Andy was on the phone by the window. Seeing Ashley, he was captivated. He looked away when his call to Tanya connected. He said. Tanya, good morning! What time are you arriving?”
Tanya said something and Andy’s face changed. His colleagues noticed he looked unwell.
Andy, what’s wrong? Are you sick?”
He shook his head. Someone whispered, “I saw Mr. Reed bring a beautiful woman to the company.”
Really? She was stunning, glowing_white!”
Andy thought of the woman who’d hugged Tim. Someone added,”She’s a new colleague!”
Andy was stunned. Tanya was his junior. Knowing she wanted to join Eternal, he recommended her to Tim. Today should be her first day of work. He’d called to ask when she was arriving but learned that Tim had canceled her hiring due to personal reasons…
Tim and Ashley entered.
