Chapter 33
Chase’s phone rang.
It was Emily.
“On a business trip again?”
“Just got back.” Chase put the call on speakerphone. “What’s up, Grandma?”
Emily chuckled. “I haven’t seen Ashley and Sam in two weeks. It’s cold. Let’s take them to the Hot Spring Resort tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
Sam was thrilled. “Hot springs, yikes!”
Chase looked at Ashley.”I’ll have someone pick you up tomorrow night.”
Ashley refused.”I will drive myself from the company.”
Sam pouted.”Mom, come with me! It’s so far; I’ll be bored alone.”
Ashley thought for a while and then compromised.”…Okay.”
Eternal was developing a new app. Tim called Ashley to discuss technical issues after dinner. Ashley went outside to take the call.
After half an hour, she came back. Sam looked up and said, “Mom, you get a lot of calls lately. You just talked for a long time. You weren’t like this before…”
Chase looked at her. The housekeeper noticed that too. Ashley rarely chatted on the phone for so long. Did she have a lover? It was unlikely, considering her feelings for Chase.
“Something came up,” Ashley said. “I’ll go upstairs.”
Sam was disappointed.
‘Oh…’
Ashley opened her laptop and started working. Sam, seeing her busy, played by himself. After showering, he looked over. Ashley was still working. San didn’t understand, but he noticed Tanya had done similar work…
After a while, Sam went to bed. Ashley finished late at night.
She didn’t return to the master bedroom and Chase showed no reaction. Perhaps that was also what he wanted.
The next day, Ashley didn’t make breakfast. Sam woke up and realized his mom had slept here last night. He quietly got up and went downstairs. Seeing Chase, he yawned.”Dad, morning.”
“Hmm.’
Mom’s still asleep.”
Hmm.
When Ashley got up, Chase had almost finished breakfast. They didn’t communicate; he left after eating. Ashley went to work on time.
When Ashley got back at night, Sam was already waiting in the car. Chase hadn’t returned. After twenty minutes, Sam frowned. “Dad’s slow.”
Ashley calmly read. The phone rang. The housekeeper said, “Mr. Sterling said he was too busy to come back. He asked you and Sam to go to the resort first; he’ll be there later.”
Ashley said indifferently,”Okay.” Chase said he’d be there later, but he didn’t show up that night..
Chase’s absence angered Emily and upset Sam.
Ashley remained calm, serenely making tea for Emily.”He might have an emergency.” Emily went to bed early.
Sam called Chase repeatedly; he didn’t answer.
The next morning, Ashley woke up alone. Sam was gone. It was said that he had gone out with someone because he was bored by Chase’s absence. Emily had caught a cold the previous night and returned to her house alone because she didn’t want to disturb Ashley.
The resort was empty except for staff.

Sam probably left to meet with Chase and Tanya, or he would have told Ashley about this. It was raining; but the hot spring had a cover, making it pleasant to read and relax. Ashley preferred her alone time. She had more time for herself.
On Sunday afternoon, Ashley planned to go home after dinner. Then, Emily called her.”Ashley, I called Chase this morning, asking him to pick you up tonight. Did he contact you?”
No. Chase hadn’t shown up or called. Even Sam had left without telling her. But Ashley didn’t want to tell Emily about this.
Yes.”
Emily was relieved. “That’s good.” After knowing Emily was better, Ashley hung up.
After sunset, Ashley had dinner.
She waited until 9 pm, but Chase didn’t show up. The resort was far from her home; it’d take over an hour and a half to get back.
She decided to leave.
