Chapter 145: Chapter 145

"Wait, that can’t be right, can it?"

Mrs. Shaw stared at Fleur, her brow furrowing. "It is perfectly normal and natural for Mr. Bennett to accompany Mrs. Bennett to her prenatal appointments. You’re quite something, you know, as her sister-in-law. What, is a husband taking his wife to her prenatal checkup some kind of radical concept where you come from?"

Fleur was completely at a loss for words. Only then did she realize she had overreacted.

It was all that bitch Elise’s fault! Didn’t she repeatedly claim she wanted a divorce?! If she wanted a divorce, why didn’t she just get an abortion? She was clearly keeping the baby on purpose just to keep Dylan on her hook!

Fleur was seething with rage, but she quickly forced herself to calm down on the surface. She looked at Mrs. Shaw, smiled, and said, "You misunderstand. The reason I got so worked up is that my sister-in-law actually ran away from home this time. They both have very stubborn tempers; whenever they argue, neither of them is willing to back down.

"Just the day before yesterday, I was advising Dylan to apologize to her. At the time, he told me she was being willful and bad-tempered and that he wouldn’t coddle her. I was genuinely worried they might actually end up divorced."

Fleur sighed. Seeing that Mrs. Shaw wasn’t biting, she continued: "Honestly, I’ve been so worried lately. I came here this time hoping to talk some sense into my sister-in-law. After all, they’re married and have a child; a divorce would be so hard on the kid. Hearing that they’ve reconciled so suddenly was just such a wonderful surprise, and I got a bit emotional. I’m sorry for making a scene."

"Oh, I see!" Mrs. Shaw nodded, offering a tight, plastic smile. "Well, if that’s the case, you can rest easy. They’re doing absolutely wonderfully now!"

Fleur’s forced smile stiffened a bit more. "Is that so? That’s... wonderful..."

"Yeah! I don’t know how they were before," Mrs. Shaw said, mimicking the local accent and winking playfully at Fleur. "But lately, Mr. Bennett has been following Mrs. Bennett around like a puppy, protecting her like she’s his most prized possession! If you hadn’t mentioned their fight and divorce talk, we never would have guessed. Mr. Bennett is incredibly good to her!"

Fleur clenched her fists at her sides, her nails digging into her palms as she tried her best to maintain her smile. Little did she know, Mrs. Shaw had already caught the utter stiffness in her expression.

Mrs. Shaw’s smile grew even wider. "It’s so sweet of you to worry so much about them. But then again, what couple doesn’t fight? Mrs. Bennett is pregnant, so her hormones are bound to affect her mood. It’s only normal for her to be a bit temperamental. From what I can see, Mr. Bennett is incredibly patient and accommodating with her! Even as someone who doesn’t believe in marriage, watching them makes me envious!"

Fleur couldn’t bear to listen to another word. Before her smile cracked completely, she spoke up: "Well, knowing they’ve made up sets my mind at ease. Since they aren’t here, I won’t take up any more of your time."

"Oh, don’t worry about it, guests are always welcome!" Mrs. Shaw waved her hand dismissively. "A friend of mine actually just sent me some green tea the day before yesterday. Why don’t you come in and try some?"

"No, thank you. I’ve been traveling all day and I’m quite tired. I think I’ll head back and rest."

"I see. Well, feel free to drop by whenever you have time!"

"Will do." Fleur gave a polite nod, turned, and walked away.

Mrs. Shaw rolled her eyes at Fleur’s retreating back. Then, she turned, walked inside, and pulled out her phone to call Elise.

Elise was indeed at the city’s maternity hospital for a prenatal checkup, but she was there with Rina. As for Dylan, he had left early that morning, and Mrs. Shaw had no idea where he had gone. The only reason she had lied earlier was purely to get under Fleur’s skin. Seeing Fleur’s grimace of a smile made Mrs. Shaw feel thoroughly satisfied!

Maternity Hospital, Obstetrics and Gynecology Department.

Elise hung up the phone and walked back to sit down beside Rina.

Rina looked at her. "Who was that?"

"Mrs. Shaw." Elise slipped her phone back into her bag and smiled faintly. "She said Fleur is here."

Rina frowned. "What is she doing here?"
