As their eyes met, Michael’s hawkish gaze remained entirely devoid of emotion, naturally radiating a heavy, suffocating pressure.
Under his scrutiny, Fleur felt an uncanny sensation—as though she had been stripped completely bare before him.
The smile froze on her face as she forced a frail, strained grin. "You possess such distinguished status, Mr. Lee. Meeting you for the first time... I—I truly am a bit nervous."
As she spoke, Fleur lowered her eyes, her thick, fluttering lashes neatly veiling the panic in her gaze. Habitually skilled at deception, she found herself completely at a loss when facing Michael.
Her awkward performance made Anna break into a cold sweat. But with Michael standing right there, Anna could only offer a flattering smile and step in to smooth things over.
"Mr. Lee, please don’t take offense! Fleur just has that kind of personality—a bit of social anxiety, which is precisely why she chose to wear a mask in her short videos all along. We really owe you our thanks for your guidance. It’s only thanks to your generous support that our Fleur felt brave enough to push her boundaries and take on this challenge!"
A faint, subtle smile touched Michael’s lips. His eyes swept over Anna before returning to Fleur.
"Oh? So Miss Bonnaire accepted this show all for my sake?"
With her eyes lowered, Fleur was caught entirely off guard by his remark. At a loss for how to respond, she could only nod meekly.
Her reaction made Michael narrow his eyes slightly, the true nature of his thoughts becoming even harder to fathom.
Anna watched Michael’s face closely. Though his expression remained unreadable, she could sense the atmospheric pressure around them dropping even lower than before.
This won’t do! I can’t let this useless girl go around offending Mr. Lee!
Plastering on a broad smile, Anna was just about to interject when Michael spoke up first.
"Since Miss Bonnaire isn’t fond of socializing, I won’t disturb you any further," the man said, his deep voice carrying a quiet authority. "Please, carry on with your work. Don’t mind me."
Oh no, is he angry?!
Anna and Director Kelly exchanged a swift, panicked look.
Director Kelly quickly gestured for Anna to leave. Catching his drift, Anna offered a deferential, apologetic smile to Michael. "Mr. Lee, I’ll take Fleur to get ready for filming then."
With that, she dragged Fleur away, eager to give the girl a stern talking-to.
Once they were out of earshot, Director Kelly leaned in close, asking in a hushed, cautious tone, "Mr. Lee, I noticed you seem quite interested in Fleur. How about I set up a dinner gathering tonight and bring her along?"
Anyone in the industry understood the underlying meaning. Although Michael was a foreign tycoon, most powerful men in high society played by the same unspoken rules. Men in high places loved power, but they loved beauty just as much. Fleur possessed both beauty and talent, and Michael had personally come to the set for her sake—it was obvious he harbored an interest in her.
In this circle, an influencer of Fleur’s level had to pay a price if she wanted prime resources. In Director Kelly’s eyes, even if Fleur was the eldest young mistress of the Bennett family, she was ultimately nothing more than a widowed sister-in-law.
If the Bennett family truly valued her, why would they let her make public appearances like this? Besides, three days into filming, the Bennett family hadn’t made a single move, which only proved that her standing in their household was average at best.
Therefore, Director Kelly felt Fleur ought to flatter and curry favor with Mr. Lee. This was their big investor; if she could cling to a benefactor like him, would she ever have to worry about making it in the industry?
Unfortunately for Director Kelly, his scheme was bound to fall flat with Michael.
A faint, flawless smile remained on Michael’s handsome face. Looking at the director, he reached out and patted the director’s shoulder. "I appreciate the thought, Mr. Kelly. However, since Miss Bonnaire isn’t good at socializing, I believe it’s best not to force her."
Director Kelly’s flattering smile froze.
Clearly, Michael was displeased with Fleur’s performance just now. He was the show’s sole investor; if he was unhappy and pulled his funding, everything would be ruined!
Trying to salvage the situation, Director Kelly stammered, "Mr. Lee, Fleur is just slow to warm up, but she holds the utmost respect for you! Rest assured, I’ll have Anna give her a proper talk..."
