Walking Away While Pregnant: Dear Ex-Husband, I Don't Love You Anymore novel Chapter 170

Chapter 170: Chapter 170

Hearing this, Dylan knit his brows into a slight frown.

Seeing his reaction, Lorenzo chuckled with a gloating smirk. "Don’t tell me she isn’t even coming home with you after the baby is born?"

"Are you that curious?" Dylan shot him a cold glance. "Why don’t I give you her contact information so you can call and ask her yourself?"

"I’m just showing some concern; why get so touchy?" Lorenzo leaned back against his chair, raising an eyebrow. "In a bad mood? Want your buddy here to take you out for a few drinks?"

"No need. Once I get the documents, I have to make a trip overseas."

At those words, the grin faded from Lorenzo’s face. "Does it have to do with that appraisal report?"

"Mhm." Dylan’s face remained impassive. "A foreign wealthy investor is expected to enter the domestic new energy market soon. Keep an eye on that for me."

"Will do." Lorenzo paused briefly before asking, "Does that kid Aaron going abroad this time have anything to do with this as well?"

Dylan frowned. "How do you know about that?"

"He came to me a while ago too—also for an appraisal."

Hearing this, a flicker of surprise crossed Dylan’s eyes. "On whose behalf?"

"He didn’t say, but his tone sounded pretty urgent at the time." Lorenzo shrugged. "You know his old man’s personality. He only opens his mouth to ask for a favor once in a blue moon—there was no way I was going to turn him down!"

Dylan fell into deep thought.

Just then, Mr. Dunn walked over carrying the document folder. "Sir, I brought the item."

Lorenzo gestured toward Dylan with a tilt of his chin. "Hand it to Mr. Bennett."

"Right away." Mr. Dunn presented the folder to Dylan.

"Thank you for your trouble." Dylan took the folder and stood up. "I’ll be taking my leave then. Let’s catch up another time."

Lorenzo stood up as well. "I’ll drive you to the airport myself."

"No need, just have your driver take me."

Walking over to his side, Lorenzo clapped him on the shoulder. "Don’t get touched just yet—I recently picked up a new sports car, and I mainly just want to show it off!"

Three days later.

With Alexander wrapping up his local work and a particularly thorny case coming up in North City, he needed to head back immediately.

Lily threw a tantrum, refusing to leave. With both Robin and Elise here, she was noticeably far less attached to Alexander than before.

Elise figured that since Alexander would be buried in work after returning to North City anyway, it made more sense to let Lily stay behind for now. After all, Mrs. Shaw and several guesthouse staff members could all help keep an eye on her.

Alexander’s trip back was for a criminal case delegated by an acquaintance at the Procuratorate. Involving a homicide, it was bound to be a complex and demanding matter, meaning Alexander would likely be tied up for quite some time.

After weighing the options, Alexander ultimately left Lily in their care.

Elise, accompanied by both Lily and Robin, went along to see Alexander off at the airport.

This was the first time in Lily’s life that she was being separated from Alexander. By the time they reached the airport terminal, the little girl’s eyes had inevitably turned red.

Looking down at his young daughter in his arms, his voice was warm and gentle. "Lily, Daddy has to go now. Be good while you’re here, alright?"

"Lily will be good," Lily murmured softly, her large, grape-like eyes fixed on him. "Daddy, make sure you think about me often when you’re back at work."

Noticing the little girl’s reluctance, Alexander lightly tapped her nose with his fingertip. "Don’t worry, Daddy will be thinking about our little Lily every single moment."

Lily pouted her lips. "Don’t work too hard, and eat your meals on time!"

"Alright." Looking at his daughter’s tear-brimmed eyes, Alexander felt a tug of reluctance in his own heart as well.

Although he felt completely at ease leaving Lily in Elise’s care, this was the first time since adopting her that he was leaving her behind in another city. As a devoted father, he couldn’t help but worry.

Upon returning to North City, it would be at least half a month before he could come back to Rainport. A whole half-month apart—how could he not miss her?

"You must listen to Godmother obediently. No throwing tantrums, no making a fuss, and get along nicely with Robin, okay?"

Lily nodded her little head, her sweet, milky voice carrying a slight sniffle. "Don’t worry, Daddy. I will be very good. I won’t make a fuss."
