**TITLE: Alpha Novel 384**
“I know this is just your way of getting back at me,” Jess remarked, her tone sharp as she gestured toward me, as if I were merely a pawn in Alexander’s game.
My jaw clenched tightly, a storm of emotions swirling within me. I longed to confront her, to unleash the frustration that bubbled beneath the surface, but I held back. Deep down, I recognized that this was precisely what she wanted—an opportunity to provoke me.
Taking a moment to regain her composure, Jess inhaled deeply. She wiped the remnants of tears from her eyes and squared her shoulders, projecting an air of confidence.
“Your mother mentioned that you were seeing someone,” Jess continued, her voice now steady, as if the previous moment of tension had evaporated. “She made it abundantly clear that she hoped I could get along with Olivia.”
Alexander scoffed, an amused grin playing on his lips. “Oh, I’m sure she did,” he replied, his sarcasm thick.
Jess’s expression shifted, a flash of indignation crossing her face. She pressed a hand dramatically to her chest. “Honestly, I’m here to work. I assure you, I have no intention of interfering with your relationship or causing any trouble.”
Yeah, right.
The words almost escaped my lips, but I was resolute in my decision to remain silent unless absolutely necessary.
“You don’t mind if I stay, do you, Olivia?” Jess asked, her smile directed at me like a calculated move in a chess game.
“That’s really none of my concern,” I replied, my voice cool and measured. I felt a surge of pride for maintaining my composure. “That’s entirely up to Alexander. Besides, I don’t even know you.”
“I have a solution,” Alexander interjected suddenly, his tone authoritative, likely an attempt to quell any further exchange between Jess and me. “Jess, you will move into my apartment.”
What??
Shock coursed through me, and I turned my head sharply to glare at him, fury igniting like wildfire within my chest. The impulse to shove Alexander off the edge of the rooftop was almost overwhelming.
But there he was, grinning at me, that infuriating wink flashing in my direction. “And I will move into Olivia’s apartment.”
Olivia’s eyes widened, disbelief washing over her as she stared at Alexander, processing his audacity.
She was taken aback by his boldness, his assumption that he could simply declare his intention to live with her. Their relationship was already a tangled mess of emotions—how would cohabitation complicate things even further?
Yet, if Olivia were to dig deep into her heart, she had to acknowledge that the thought of Alexander and his ex-girlfriend sharing a living space ignited a fierce jealousy within her, a flame she couldn’t easily extinguish.
“I told the kitten every night how much you missed her,” he said, glancing at Olivia, who blushed at the compliment.
Olivia set the laser pointer aside, and the kitten leaped into her lap, purring contentedly as she absentmindedly stroked its soft fur.
“We need to name her,” Olivia mused after a moment, glancing down at the kitten. “We can’t just keep calling her ‘the kitten.'”
Alexander paused in his task, straightening up from the fridge. The contemplative look on his face told Olivia he was deep in thought. She felt a rush of warmth at the realization that she could read him so well. It still seemed surreal that the renowned businessman and billionaire, Alexander Green, was going to share a home with her.
“Why don’t you choose a name for her?” Alexander suggested, his eyes twinkling. “She adores you, and you were there when I found her. It feels only right.”
Olivia pondered for a moment, watching him as he moved around the apartment. Her heart swelled with anticipation; a part of her was genuinely excited about the prospect of living together.
“I’ve got the perfect name!” she exclaimed when Alexander settled beside her on the couch.
“Let’s hear it,” he urged, gently petting the kitten.
“Cheese!” she declared proudly. “Her light orange fur is just like cheddar, and she’s such a happy little girl. It seems like she’s always smiling.”
