My small hands clench into fists, and a wave of fury unlike anything I’ve ever felt surges through me. My eyes flash dangerously as I press my trembling finger against my lips.
I struggled to contain my rage. “I don’t have all the facts yet. Tell no one about this. And make sure any record of this paternity test is completely erased.”
“Yes, sir, Henderson responds with a bow.
I walk to the stairwell and listen to the reporters‘ aggressive questioning from the floor above. A cold determination settles over me. If Father
hadn’t been at that birthday dinner, Cedar–no, my mother–would be the one fighting for her life right now.
“Henderson,” I say quietly, “intensify our efforts. I want Wright Creatives dissolved within three days.”
Henderson nods firmly. I know he understands. Cedar is now confirmed as my biological mother, making her the most important person in my
world. Anyone who tries to harm her will face consequences.
I return to the black town car waiting outside and slide into the backseat. After a moment’s hesitation, I pull out my phone and dial a number.
Two rings, then a sleepy voice answers. “Hey, big bro. Isn’t it nighttime there? What’s up with the call?”
Oliver’s carefree tone floats through the speaker. I press my lips together before speaking. “Why were you so certain Cedar was our mother?”
“I told you already, bro. She saved me once, and since I didn’t have a mom, I thought she’d make a good one,” he replies casually.
‘Stop lying. I just received the DNA test results.”
There’s a splashing sound, as if Oliver has jumped up from wherever he was lounging. “What did you say? I didn’t catch that!”
“The DNA test confirms Cedar and I share genetic markers. She is our biological mother.” I enunciate each word carefully. “What I want to know is how you found her, and why you were so convinced she was our mother in the first place.”
Silence fills the line. I wait patiently.
Finally, Oliver’s voice returns, thick with emotion. “Last year, when I kept running away and Father grounded me… I wasn’t just being rebellious. I was searching for our mom.”
I listen as he continues, his words tumbling out faster now.
“I wanted a mother so badly, but how could I know who she was? I gathered birthmark information from countless women, cross–referencing each detail against my own. Only when the birthmarks showed high probability matches would I proceed with DNA testing. Every day brought disappointment, but I couldn’t give up. If I did, I’d never have a mother…
Oliver sniffles, his voice muffled as if he’s wiping tears. “You’re always with Father learning the business, Aria has her performances, and we were all just… I had to do it myself. I followed every lead I could find. I thought it would take years, but two months ago, Mom walked into our
lives.”
“I searched for several month to find her, Aiden. I wanted to keep her to myself for a while, to have her love me a little more before sharing. That’s why I didn’t tell anyone. Please don’t be mad at me?”

I can picture Oliver’s tear–streaked face even through the phone. Months of building hope, crushing disappointment, countless comparisons and DNA tests–until finally finding the one person he’d been searching for.
