Chapter 114
A young man in a black coat stood over him, his back to me. Harassing when in broad daylight? I’ll teach you a fenn every time
try it, he said with cold amusement.
Something about his voice seemed oddly familiar. As I tried to place it, the young man sprinted away, disappearing arwind a crime as y
as he’d appeared.
The entire incident lasted less than a minute.
“Cedar, I think my back is broken, Jonathan moaned from the ground. Help me up, please
I remained rooted in place, my mind still trying to identify the mysterious young man. I knew I’d seen him somewhere before
Who would intervene on my behalf like that?
“Mommy!
A sweet, childish voice cut through my thoughts.
I whirled around, my eyes widening in disbelief at the sight before me.
Oliver’s POV
“Oliver, you’re back!” Mom rushed toward me, sweeping me into her arms. I buried my face against her neck, inhaling the familiar scent of her
Chanel perfume.
“I missed you so much, Mommy,” I whimpered, clinging to her. “Coming to find you was the first thing I did when I got back. I’ve been waiting forever to see you again!”
After getting that phone call from Aiden, I couldn’t think about anything else. I sneaked away from Grandma and got on a plane back home. I needed to be with Mom before my brothers took her all for themselves!
“There, there, no more tears or you’ll look like a little raccoon,” Mom said, holding my shoulders to examine me at arm’s length. I could feel her eyes taking in how much darker my skin had gotten from all the Australian sunshine, but she smiled like she approved of how healthy I looked.
The man lying on the sidewalk–the one who had been bothering Mom–stared at us with shock written across his face.
I’d seen him before, a long time ago. He hadn’t paid much attention to me then, but now I could see recognition dawning in his eyes as he looked between Mom and me.
“Cedar,” he said, pulling himself to his feet, “this must be your son. What a handsome, clever–looking boy.” His voice turned sickeningly sweet. “I suppose that makes me his grandfather. I should give him a proper welcome gift.”
Mom turned back to him with ice in her eyes. “You’re no grandfather to him, Mr. Wright. I have no connection to the Wright family anymore. Please stop trying to claim relationships that don’t exist.”
“Cedar,” he persisted, dusting off his suit, “you called me ‘Dad‘ for over twenty years. We raised you. And most importantly, you still carry the Wright name. Our families will always be connected.” His voice softened further. “I’m not asking for anything unreasonable–just a small favor in return for all those years we cared for you…”

Chapter 114
Mom wasn’t listening. She scooped me up, ready to leave this man behind
But I suddenly had a better idea, I wriggled out of Mom’s arms and strutted over to stand in front of the man who claimed to be my grandfather.
I tilted my head back to look him in the eye, making no effort to hide my disdain. So you’re saying you’re my grandfather?”
Mom sucked in a breath behind me.
