Chapter 131
Victoria’s POV
I’d volunteered to invite him over just to get his attention–didn’t
really matter if it was good or bad, as long as he actually noticed me. But honestly? I never thought he’d say yes so quickly.
To me, that could only mean one thing: Ridley was definitely interested. I mean, why else would he want to sit with us?
Just as I was about to suggest he take the seat next to me, he went
and sat down right next to Cedar instead.
Watching this whole thing play out, I could feel myself clenching my
jaw so hard my teeth might actually crack.
-I was the one who invited Ridley Sterling to this dinner. How dare
Cedar Wright–that little opportunist–reap the benefits of hard
work? The way he looked at her made my blood boil.

I wanted nothing more than to yank her away from that seat, but with Ridley right there, I didn’t dare make such a scene. All could do was sit there, seething, my eyes boring into Cedar’s back as she chatted with him. The most eligible bachelor in Chicago’s design world-

sitting next to her instead of me.
When Cedar practically fled from her seat, I couldn’t help but smile. If
she was stupid enough to abandon her position next to Ridley, I
certainly wouldn’t hesitate to take advantage.
The restaurant’s air conditioning was blasting directly above my seat.
Perfect excuse. I hugged my arms dramatically and sighed, “The AC is
freezing me. Does anyone else feel cold?”
One of my male colleagues immediately offered, “Would you like to
switch seats with me, Victoria?”
I shook my head with practiced delicacy. “That’s too much trouble.
Cedar’s seat is empty right now… I’ll just move there for a bit to warm
up.”
I rose from my chair, feeling the eyes of everyone at the table
– following me. Inside, I was triumphant. None of them would dare
approach Sterling when his expression looked so forbidding–his face
had darkened the moment Cedar left. But I’m different. I know how to
handle powerful men.
As I pulled out Cedar’s chair, my heart raced. This was my boldest
move yet, but sometimes you have to seize opportunities. No risk, no
reward.

I was about to sit down when Ridley’s cold voice cut through the air: “What are you doing?”
His tone was arctic, emanating frost like a walk–in freezer. I couldn’t
help but shiver, but forced myself to continue.
“Mr. Sterling, I’m just… it’s too cold where I was sitting. I thought I
might avoid the draft over here…”
E-
“This seat is taken,” he stated without even looking at me.
My courage evaporated instantly, but I couldn’t back down now–not
with everyone watching. Retreat would mean becoming the
laughingstock of the entire department.
“I understand it’s Cedar’s seat,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady,
“but I’m sure she wouldn’t mind switching with me.”
” “I mind.”
Three syllables from those perfect lips, and finally, he deigned to look
at me. His eyes held nothing but cold disdain as he added, “Your
perfume is offensive. Stay away from me.”
My face burned white–hot, then ice–cold. I felt stripped naked before
everyone, their stares a mixture of pity, mockery, and second–hand
