Chapter 176
Cedar’s POV
I was still sitting in the entryway of my new apartment, surrounded
by half–unpacked boxes, when a sharp knock on the door pulled me
from my thoughts. Who could possibly be visiting me on moving day?
I’d barely told anyone my new address.
When I pulled open the door, my heart skipped a beat. Ridley stood
there in an impeccably tailored charcoal suit, looking like he’d
stepped straight off a magazine cover.
“Mr. Sterling,” I stammered, my fingers nervously adjusting my messy
ponytail. “What brings you here?”
His intense gaze swept over me before moving past to scan the
apartment behind me. “Aiden mentioned you were moving today. I
thought I should come by and make sure everything is satisfactory.”
I fought the urge to roll my eyes. He was treating me like a valued
customer instead of his employee. Did he really have nothing better
to do today? But I managed a polite smile instead.
“That’s very thoughtful. And thank you again for this apartment. It’s

beautiful.” The words felt awkward on my tongue.
Ridley’s piercing eyes fixed on my face. “Between us, Cedar, is
gratitude really necessary?”
Between us. Those two simple words carried an implication that made
my cheek. flush. What exactly did he mean by that?
“Would you like to come in?” I asked, my voice a little too bright as I tried to steer us away from that topic. “I was just about to make
dinner first. Are you hungry?”
“Actually, yeah,” he said, following me inside. “But let me help you with those boxes first. We can unpack while something’s cooking.”
I couldn’t picture Sterling’s CEO in his expensive suit sorting through my thrift store clothes and cheap trinkets. It just felt… off.
“That’s not necessary. Please, make yourself comfortable. I’ll be done
in the kitchen soon.”
I hurried toward the small but sleek kitchen, feeling his eyes on my back the entire way. My hands trembled slightly as I opened the refrigerator, which I’d stocked earlier with fresh groceries. I decided to make my signature dishes: honey garlic chicken, creamy mushroom pasta, Caesar salad, and a simple vegetable soup. Simple

but satisfying.
As I chopped and stirred, I could hear Ridley moving around the
living room, opening boxes and arranging things. The thought of him
touching my belongings made me both embarrassed and strangely
flattered.
Ridley’s POV
I watched Cedar disappear into the kitchen, the rhythmic sound of
her knife against the cutting board soon filling the apartment.
I’d never been so fixated on a woman before. Not even Irene, when
she was alive, had occupied such a significant place in my thoughts.
After a sleepless night of overthinking and an entire day where
Cedar’s face kept flashing through my mind during meetings, I had to
face what I’d been trying to deny all along–I was somewhat falling
for this woman. And somehow, without even thinking about it, my
feet had carried me straight here the moment I left the office.
But this woman seemed entirely indifferent to me.
I shook these thoughts away and surveyed the living room. Boxes
were stacked neatly, waiting to be unpacked. I began with the nearest
one,

them.
When I moved to her bedroom to hang up her clothes, I was shocked
