Chapter 178
Cedar’s POV
So that was his plan all along–he wanted me to move in specifically
to take care of Aria. I wiped imaginary sweat from my forehead and
silently scolded myself.
Good grief, where had my mind wandered? I’d practically written an
entire romantic screenplay in my head!
Mrs. Sterling appreciated me because I genuinely cared for her
grandchildren. But Ridley…
If this man were truly willing to find a woman and create a family for
his children’s sake, why would he have remained single for so many
years?
Wait–was that disappointment I was feeling?
I really was losing my mind.
I quickly pushed these thoughts away and smiled politely. “Don’t worry, Mr. Sterling. I’ll visit Aria at your home regularly.”

“Living at the Sterling residence would be better,” Ridley replied with
a slight nod. “Aria would see you first thing when she wakes up and
last thing before she sleeps.” He paused momentarily. “If you’re
willing to move in to care for Aria, we can offer you an annual salary
of $500,000.”
My expression cooled instantly. “Mr. Sterling, did you offer Ms. Black
the same $500,000 salary?”
Ridley frowned. “Why bring her up?” His tone suggested he’d rather
never mention that woman again.
I met his gaze directly. “For someone who doesn’t genuinely love
children, even offering a million dollars wouldn’t make them treat
Aria well. But for someone who truly cares for children, offering
money is insulting. Mr. Sterling, your offer feels like an insult to me.
Do you understand what I mean?”
Ridley pressed his lips together in silence.
“Mr. Sterling,” I continued, my voice steady, “I’ll visit Aria often, and
I’ll love and protect her. But please don’t mention money again. My
relationship with Aria isn’t something that can be measured in
dollars.”
“Understood,” Ridley nodded calmly.

me in his arms.
I stared up at him, mortified, my face burning with embarrassment.
Why did every encounter with this man have to involve some
humiliating incident?
I swear I didn’t do this on purpose!
I pressed my hands against the floor, trying to get up.
Just then, the living room door burst open, followed by the sound of
children’s excited chatter.
Oliver’s POV
“I wanna go in first! I want Mommy to see ME first!” I declared,
pushing past Aiden.
“Oliver, you’re acting like a three–year–old,” Aiden said coldly.
“Nobody’s competing with you.”
“You’re just jealous that Mommy likes me better,” I huffed, sticking
out my tongue.
We were still bickering as we pushed open the door. Then we all froze.

up.” Aria nodded in agreement beside him.
“But I can call her Mommy anyway,” I argued. “Dad hasn’t stopped
me…”
Aiden looked like he wanted to knock me unconscious.
So what? I wasn’t afraid of him.
“I’m going in!” I announced, moving toward the door again.
But before I could take another step, Aria tugged on my sleeve.
“If you go in there, we won’t get a baby sister,” she said in her quiet,
matter–of–fact voice. “My book says that when Daddy and Mommy are
together, they can make a baby sister. Don’t you want a little sister?”
A little sister!
The word instantly conjured an image of a sweet, adorable little girl.
