Chapter 200
The doctor leaned forward, his expression serious. “Mr. Sterling, Aria
is recovering faster than any autistic child I’ve encountered. This
must be related to your family’s care. Moving forward, you must all
spend even more time with her. If you believe that her speaking
indicates a full recovery, you’d be gravely mistaken.”
“She’s received love this past month. If that love is removed, she could regress into an even more severe state of autism, potentially harder to treat than before. Mr. and Mrs. Sterling, a healthy family environment can accelerate her recovery dramatically. I strongly recommend maintaining a loving atmosphere around her at all
times…”
The doctor continued for nearly thirty minutes. Neither Ridley nor I interrupted, both of us intently absorbing his advice about Aria’s
ongoing treatment.
By the time we left the hospital, dusk had fallen.
Once we were in the car, Ridley turned to me, his gaze intense. “You
heard what the doctor said?”
I nodded. The doctor had emphasized one thing above all: the critical importance of a stable, loving family environment for Aria’s recovery.

“Then move into Sterling Mansion,” Ridley said, his voice deep and
unwavering. “Aria started speaking because of you. If you lived with
us, I believe she could fully recover.”
I stared at him in shock. “No, no, I can’t have that much influence.”
He’d suggested this once before, and I’d refused. I still didn’t want to
move into his home.
“If you’ll move in for Aria’s sake, I’ll agree to any conditions you set,”
Ridley said, each word measured and deliberate.
His piercing gaze made my skin tingle.
If I hadn’t heard the doctor’s explanation myself, I might have refused
again without a second thought.
But the doctor’s words echoed in my mind: Aria needed consistent
family support to recover faster, to gradually become a normal,
ordinary child.
If I stayed in my apartment, visiting only once a week for less than
two hours, what would that do to her? Giving her love only to take it
away again each time–wasn’t that another form of emotional
abandonment?

Could Aria handle that?
I looked down to find her clutching my fingers, her eyes full of
attachment and need.
Aria truly saw me as her mother.
But I’d rejected Ridley’s offer repeatedly because of my own feelings
and social perceptions.
“Mommy…” Aria called softly, looking up at me.
That single word melted my heart completely.
I couldn’t bear the thought of her living isolated in her own world forever. I couldn’t stand the idea of her remaining emotionally closed
off for life.
But moving to Sterling House meant giving up my independence, my
personal space, my normal life.
Was it worth it? I asked myself silently.
“Ridley, can I have a few days to think about it?” I finally said.
He nodded calmly. “I’ll take you home for now.‘
