That seemed to sway Aiden. He always had a soft spot for Aria.

“Fine,” he relented with a sigh. “But we have to be careful not to cause

any trouble.”

We slipped out of the game room and into the wide hallway. The Pierce mansion was full of history stuff and mysterious vibes. Family portraits lined the walls, and fancy antiques sat on tables everywhere

you looked.

“Look!” Aria suddenly stopped, pointing to a half–open door. “What’s

in there?”

Inside was a small library with sunlight streaming through stained glass windows, making colorful patterns on the old wooden shelves. But what caught Aria’s attention wasn’t the books–it was a big album

open on a reading stand.

We crept closer, and Aria carefully turned the pages. The album was full of old Pierce family photos going back generations. When we reached one particular photo, Aria gasped.

“That’s Mommy!” she exclaimed, pointing to a picture of a young

woman.

The woman looked about twenty, with the same face shape and smile

as Mommy. She stood in the Pierce garden wearing a simple blue

dress, sunlight creating an almost magical glow in her blonde hair.

I leaned in for a better look. “Whoa, it really does look like her!”

Aiden studied the photo with narrowed eyes. He touched the caption below: “Eleanor Pierce, Summer 2000.” His eyes moved between the photo and the text, his brain working overtime like it always does. “This can’t be Mommy. The timing doesn’t work. This must be Mr.

Pierce and Miss Emma’s mother.”

“But they look almost identical!” Aria insisted, her finger gently tracing the photograph. “Same eyes, same smile…”

“This is weird,” I said, shaking my head. “Did you know Mommy was adopted? Her foster parents were really mean to her.” I lowered my voice. “They even kidnapped me once to blackmail her.”

Aiden nodded. “I’ve researched Mommy’s background. Before her adoption, she was in an orphanage, but I couldn’t find any information about her birth parents.”

Aria turned to us, shocked. “You never told me any of this!”

I shrugged. “We didn’t want to worry you. Besides, Mommy lives with

us now. Our home is her home.”

The three of us looked back at the photograph, lost in thought.

“But don’t you think Mommy wants to find her real mom? Just like we did,” Aiden said slowly. “And she really does look almost exactly like

Mrs. Pierce…”

“Maybe she’s part of the Pierce family!” I exclaimed, excitement

building. “Like in those TV shows where people find their long–lost

relatives!”

Aria’s eyes lit up with hope.

“We can’t be certain,” Aiden cautioned, though I could tell he was excited too. “But we could investigate.”

We exchanged glances, silently agreeing on our new mission.

“Operation Find Mommy’s Family,” I whispered, feeling that special thrill that comes with a secret plan.

Aiden’s usual serious expression softened. “We’ll need to be strategic

about this.”
