Chapter 214
Ridley’s POV
Watching her tense expression just moments ago, I could tell she
thought I was going to bring up what happened last night. But I
couldn’t. Not yet. Redirecting our focus to something else-
something equally important–would be better for both of us right
now.
I placed several documents on my desk with practiced nonchalance.
“Your real family have been found,” I said, keeping my voice even.
“This DNA test–you might want to take a look.”
Cedar’s head snapped up, her eyes widening as she stared first at me,
then at the papers. “What? How did you… why would you have this?”
I leaned against the edge of my desk, maintaining a calculated
distance between us. “I intercepted it a few days ago at Aiden’s office.
The testing facility delivered the report while I was there. He was out
doing a site assessment, and I happened to be the one who received
it.”
“Aiden?” Cedar’s voice was barely above a whisper as she reached for

the documents with trembling fingers. She flipped through the pages,
her breathing becoming more uneven with each turn. When she
reached the results page, her body went completely still. I watched
her eyes scan the words repeatedly: “99.9998% probability of
biological relation.”
Her face paled as she looked up at me. “This says… Ethan Pierce and I
are siblings? That can’t be right.”
I’d had the same reaction when I first read the report. The shock that
coursed through me then was nothing compared to what was written
all over her face now.
“I suspect the children arranged this when they visited the Pierce
estate last week,” I said. “They must have collected hair samples from
both you and Ethan. Those three are more resourceful than we give
them credit for.”
I moved toward her, instinctively reaching to place a hand on her
shoulder for comfort. At the last moment, I pulled back, curling my
fingers into a fist before returning my hand to my side. This wasn’t
my place.
Cedar looked up at me, her eyes filled with confusion and hurt. “Why
would the Pierces abandon me? If I’m their daughter, why did I grow
up with the Wrights?”

I held her gaze steadily. “I’m still investigating the circumstances of
how you became an orphan,” I said. “The Pierce family doesn’t know
about this yet. I wanted to get all the facts first, then let you decide
whether you want to reconnect with them.”
She nodded slowly, visibly collecting herself. The vulnerability in her
eyes was quickly masked by determination—a strength I’d come to
admire. This woman who had endured years of the Wrights‘ emotional
abuse was still standing tall, facing yet another earthquake in her life
with dignity.
Something twisted painfully in my chest. I turned away, unable to
keep looking at her. “I should leave you to process this.”
“Mr. Sterling,” she called as I reached the door.
I stopped but didn’t turn around immediately.
“Why are you doing all this for me?” Her voice was soft but steady.
After several seconds of silence, I turned to face her. “The children
