Chapter 44

Selena’s POV

Who the hell is interfering? I snapped coldly, but when I turned around, I found myself staring into a pair of completely emotionless eyes.

My entire body trembled in fear. MrMr. Sterling!

Ridley flung my wrist away with disgust.

Then he pulled out a wet wipe and methodically cleaned each finger before coldly dropping the tissue into a nearby trash can.

I felt like that discarded wipe, carelessly stepped on and thrown away. But I wouldn’t give up so easily.

I rubbed my aching wrist and looked up with tears glistening in my eyes. Mr. Sterling, we’ve met before, remember?I made sure my voice sounded sweet

and vulnerable.

Ridley’s lips curled into a cold smile. He didn’t even bother to look at me properly.

Ever since first seeing his face, my dreams had been consumed by Ridley Sterling. Every night I imagined what it would be like to be with him.

I was completely infatuated with his looks. I didn’t even care about being a stepmother to his children! Just one night with this man would satisfy me!

With these thoughts burning in my mind, I abandoned all restraint and dignity, deliberately lowering my neckline to reveal my cleavage. Mr. Sterling,I

simpered, using my most seductive voice, I’ve admired you for so long. Are you free right now? Would you join me for dinner? I know this amazing Western

restaurantshall we go together?

As I spoke, I gave him that lookthe one that had always worked on other men. The one that promised everything.

Ridley barely glanced at me before his face darkened with disgust.

He responded mercilessly: I never dine with women who are both old and ugly.

My eyes widened in shock.

Me? Old and ugly?

I was only twentyfour! How was that old?

And I was considered the most beautiful daughter of the Wright family this generation. The word uglycertainly didn’t apply to me!

And he’d defended Cedar, that ungrateful wretch!

I angrily retorted, Mr. Sterling, I must object to being called old! This is my sister, and she’s a full two years older than me. If I’m old, doesn’t that make her practically an ancient aunt?

Cedar’s lips twitched slightly. I could tell she was trying to minimize her presence, but I wasn’t about to let her escape this situation.

Besides, Mr. Sterling, you probably don’t know, but she’s just our family’s adopted daughteruncultured and completely lacking in class. The only way she could have gotten into a Sterling company was through some underhanded means! Mr. Sterling, for the sake of your company’s future, I suggest you fire her

I spoke through gritted teeth, emphasizing each word, making sure he understood exactly what Cedar wasnothing but a charity case.

Uncultured? Lacking class? Ridley sneered coldly. Strangethat sounds more like a description of you.

His thin lips were sharp as a blade. Raising your hand against your own sisterif that’s not uncultured, what is?

What sister? She’s just an adopted daughter. Her status is beneath us. What’s wrong with hitting her?I responded selfrighteously. Cedar deserved to be

put in her place.

Something in my words seemed to affect Ridley. His expression changed subtly, almost like he was remembering something.

For reasons I couldn’t understand, he looked angry.

He finally turned his gaze directly at my face for the first time: Which Wright family are you from?

I inwardly rejoiced! My words had successfully captured Ridley’s attention! He was finally interested in me!

I didn’t mind introducing myself a second time! This was my chance to make an impression.

Flipping my long hair and lowering my neckline even further, I said coquettishly, The Wright family that specializes in home designWright Creatives. My

father is the CEO, and I’m his true heir. My name is Selena Wright.

The corner of Ridley’s mouth curved into a peculiar smile: Good to know. I’ll have a surprise for you. Watch for it.

A surprise? For me?

I could barely contain the excitement bubbling inside me. Finally, Ridley Sterling was noticing me! I knew he couldn’t resist forever. Men like him always

played hard to get at first, but I was used to breaking through those barriers.

His words echoed in my mind-a surprise for yousending delicious shivers down my spine. Maybe a private dinner? A weekend getaway? Or perhaps

evenan exclusive invitation to his penthouse?

I bit my lip, imagining all the possibilities. The way he looked at me just nowso intense, so deliberate. He was definitely interested. All my efforts were

finally paying off!

I’d have to buy something special to wear. Something that would make him unable to take his eyes off me. Maybe that red dress I saw last week? The one

that hugged every curve perfectly?

I look forward to your surprise, Mr. Sterling,I purred, already planning how I’d tell my friends about dating the Ridley Sterling. This was going to change everything. Cedar would finally see that I was the one who deserved the best things in life.
