Chapter 50
Oliver’s POV
I adjusted my bow tie as Hunter drove me to the fancy party. He kept looking at me through the rearview mirror with worried eyes.
“Young Master Oliver, I really don’t think this is a good idea,‘ Hunter said.
“Mommy will wear my present tonight. I want to see her shining in the crowd! And I’ll be her secret knight, watching over her, I replied with excitement.
When we arrived, I saw all the fancy people walking into the hotel. Hunter opened my door with a sigh.
‘Remember, Young Master. Look from a safe distance, then we leave before your father notices.”
“I promise,” I said,
Getting inside was easy. I just walked close to a family with children, and the security people didn’t notice me. Once inside, I hid behind a big marble
column and started looking for Mommy.
The room was huge with sparkly chandeliers and flowers everywhere. And then I saw her.
Mommy was standing near the center of the room, looking beautiful. Her dark hair was styled with little sparkles, and she was smiling.
Hunter appeared beside me, somehow finding my hiding spot.
“See? Isn’t Mommy the prettiest lady here?” I whispered to him. “That’s because of my dress!”
Hunter looked where I was pointing. “Young master, I believe that’s not the blue gown you selected. That appears to be a different dress.”
My excitement turned to confusion as I remembered. “My dress was blue with sparkles and a big poufy skirt! That’s purple and… not poufy at all!”
“Who switched my present?” I demanded.
Hunter cleared his throat. “If I had to guess, Young Master, I’d say perhaps your father made an alternative selection.”
“Daddy?!” I frowned, watching as my father stood next to Mommy with his hand on her back. “It’s just like him to be all controlling! I bet he made her wear
his boring grown–up dress instead of my pretty princess one!”
Hunter tried not to smile. “The dress does look quite elegant on her.‘
I crossed my arms. ‘Well, she only looks pretty because she’s already pretty. Not because of that stupid dress.”
Suddenly, a server with a tray full of drinks turned around and almost crashed right into me! I ducked just in time, but the man gasped loudly.
‘Oh! I’m sorry, I didn’t see the server started.
I peeked around the column and saw Daddy’s head turn in our direction, his eyes scanning the crowd. He whispered something to Mommy, then started moving through the party people.
‘Hunter! Daddy sees us!” I whispered, pulling on Hunter’s sleeve.

Hunter looked worried. “Young Master, perhaps we should-
“No! He’ll ground me forever! I grabbed Hunter’s hand and pulled him toward the crowded area. “Let’s hide over there!”
We moved through the crowd of grown–ups. I could see Daddy looking for us, his face calm but his eyes serious. People kept stopping him to talk, which
slowed him down.
Just when I thought Daddy was getting too close, I spotted the perfect hiding place behind the thick velvet curtains near one of the big windows. I pulled Hunter with me and we slipped behind them just as Daddy pulled out his phone.
‘He’s calling for backup. I whispered to Hunter. “Probably Albert.”
That’s when I heard familiar voices right next to our hiding spot. I peeked through a tiny gap in the curtains and saw Mommy’s mean sister Selena and another lady with shiny blonde hair standing really close to each other.
“Claire, I have an idea to make her look like a fool, Selena was whispering, leaning close to the blonde lady’s ear.
I couldn’t hear everything because of the party noise, but I caught words like ‘spill wine,” “dress,” and “take her clothes.” My super–spy ears understood exactly what they were planning: they wanted to ruin Mommy’s beautiful dress and make her embarrassed!
“They want to spill wine on Mommy’s dress and then steal her clothes when she changes!” I whispered to Hunter, feeling my cheeks get hot with anger.
Hunter’s eyes widened. “Young Master, we should inform your father-”
“No!” I said. “I need to stop them myself!”
I looked at Hunter’s black jacket and had the best idea ever. “Hunter, I need to borrow your jacket. And that waiter’s hat on the table.”
Hunter looked nervous but helped me put on his jacket, which was huge on me, and the black cap I grabbed from a nearby service tray. Now I was in disguise like a real spy!
“Young Master, please reconsider-” Hunter started, but I was already slipping out from our hiding spot.
I watched as Selena picked up a glass of red wine and started moving toward where Mommy was standing. She was wearing a strapless sparkly dress that looked too tight, and her high heels made her wobble like a baby giraffe.
Moving fast like a ninja, I darted between the grown–ups‘ legs and got right behind Selena just as she was about to “accidentally” bump into Mommy. With perfect timing, I stepped firmly on the back of her long dress.
RRRRRRIPPPPPP!
Selena’s dress didn’t just tear – it slid right down her body! She froze in the middle of the ballroom, standing there in just her underwear and those silly high heels. The wine glass dropped from her hand and spilled all over the floor.
“AAAHHH!” she screamed, trying to cover herself with her hands. Her face turned super red, even redder than the spilled wine.
Everyone stopped talking and stared. I hid behind a tall man’s legs, watching the chaos I’d created.
‘Oh my goodness, is that… Selena Wright?” a lady gasped.
‘What are those marks on her skin?” another woman whispered loudly.

“Aren’t those… hickeys?‘ someone else said.
The blonde lady, looked horrified. Instead of helping Selena, she backed away like she didn’t want anyone to know they were friends.
“Someone get her a tablecloth or something! a kind older lady called out.
Selena was crying now, still trying to grab her dress, but people were stepping on it as they moved around to see what was happening. She couldn’t pick it
up!
I slipped back to our hiding spot behind the curtains, where Hunter was waiting with his mouth hanging open.
‘Young Master Oliver, he whispered, ‘what did you do?”
I gave him back his jacket and hat. I saved Mommy from those mean ladies,” I said proudly. “Nobody messes with my mommy!”
From our hiding spot, I could see Daddy looking confused at the commotion. But the best part was seeing Mommy, still beautiful, and completely safe from
Selena’s evil plan.
“Mission accomplished, Hunter,” I whispered, feeling like the best spy ever. “Now we can go home.”
