"Relax... My absolute limit is triple my baseline," Ren stated, his voice completely devoid of emotion, echoing with clear certainty. "I am currently holding only double... I have plenty of margin left in my system."
It was the objective truth. He could push even harder easily.
But he was going to sever the connection right here regardless.
Because the true danger of the pillar was not the final volume of the mana. It was the temptation...
The ten plus two completely unknown, alien energies merging and awakening inside his system possessed a terrifying, intoxicating allure. It was a soft, incredibly pleasant whisper constantly brushing against his consciousness, gently inviting him to open the floodgates and become a God.
It begged him to take more, to explore their unfathomable depths, to simply let go and allow the power to consume him.
Ren felt the pull with crystal clarity, and he absolutely refused to fall for it... Funnily, corruption had taught him well.
He absorbed the exact percentage he had coldly calculated he needed, and he violently slammed the flow shut. He resisted the divine invitation with the exact same ruthless, ironclad willpower that had kept him from completely succumbing to the corruption in the ancient wind and earth ruin.
But as he focused entirely on stabilizing his volatile core, something else completely inexplicable happened in his shadow space.
His five elemental crystals began to vibrate strongly.
Ren immediately extracted them from the void. The moment they materialized in the physical world, they seemed to ignore gravity entirely pulled by an unknown energy. The five colored gems began to float around his body, rotating in a slow, hypnotic orbit. They were aggressively vibrating and responding to a stimulus that Ren had not intentionally provoked.
Everyone in the room instantly noticed the shift. The crystals felt fundamentally different than normal. The ambient energy radiating from the pillar had seemingly shocked the gems into a state of hyper-activity that they had never exhibited before.
"Ren..."
Liu’s voice broke the silence. The quietest member of the Vanguard, who always observed the board from the shadows, pointed a trembling finger toward the back of the chamber.
"Look at the vault."
Ren turned his head.
The five ancient Dragon Cores resting on the pedestal were violently vibrating and glowing too, pulsing in perfect, synchronized harmony with the crystals orbiting Ren’s chest.
There was absolutely no time to launch a scientific investigation into what this resonance meant or could achieve.
Julius, Arturo, and Selphira all reached the exact same tactical conclusion at the exact same millisecond... It was Arturo who voiced it.
