The five-headed behemoth violently charged the monolithic structure blocking the castle gates, the absolute final, stubborn obstacle standing between the corruption and its true, ultimate prize: The royal vaults, the very heart of the city it had craved from the very beginning.
The five heads reared back and unleashed their respective elements simultaneously. A chaotic beam of highly concentrated Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, and Wood slammed directly into the tower’s chassis that was already scarred by the previous corrosive barrage. And then, the colossal draconic body threw its entire weight forward, vigorously ramming its adamantium-tier tons of mass into the tower with a kinetic impact that literally buckled the stone plates beneath the city.
The monolithic tower groaned, a terrifying, metallic screech echoing across the courtyard. But it absorbed the first impact decently enough...
It would still take a while to break this masterpiece of a tower.
The hyper-compressed Diamond roots fired outward fast, desperately defending and attempting to anchor the chassis. The subterranean mana vein pumped a frantic river of ether into the core mass. The pseudo-adamantium exterior had miraculously held well against a kinetic blow that would have instantly pulverized any other modern defensive structure on the planet into dust.
But it absolutely would not hold forever.
Every single defender standing knew it. They watched the titans clash with concern.
The tower was doing exactly what it had always been engineered to do: buying them time. But against a five-headed Diamond Hydra armed with six ancient relics possessing a structural integrity superior to Diamond 3, the time it could buy was going to be comparatively short.
Down in the ground, Ren forced his broken body a bit upright.
He stared at the colossal, five-headed Hydra violently crashing its weight against his masterpiece. He looked at his bleeding friends desperately clutching their fists. He looked down at his own forearms, staring at the jagged crystals in his flesh. The primordial dragon energy in his core was completely drained. The brilliant mushroom was practically turned off to the world in his soul.
And he asked himself the absolute only question that mattered.
Was there genuinely, mathematically, any possible way to stop it?
He didn’t ask for an easy way... He didn’t ask for a safe, calculated strategy.
He begged the universe for any way.
He needed any microscopic thread he could pull at. He needed a single, hairline fracture in that impenetrable wall of meat and impossible metal. He needed absolutely anything he could leverage to drag this scenario from mathematically impossible back to at least highly improbable.
Ren didn’t have the answer yet.
But he still forced himself to his feet anyway. Because the adamantium tower absolutely was not going to hold if he just sat in there and waited for an epiphany. And because surrendering and passively allowing his now big family to be slaughtered had never, not once in his entire existence, been an option he permitted himself to consider.
The five-headed Hydra rammed the tower a second time.
"No... please. There has to be another way," Luna was the first to break the silence. Her composure was completely gone, her voice cracking with raw desperation. "Ren, your system is already failing! You’ve been forcing your core past its limits for the entire battle, you literally have crystals growing out of your skin right now! And you want us to give you everything so you can overload your heart again against a new and superior enemy?"
