“What? Now?” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. “The company just lost a multi-million dollar project. We need to make up for that

revenue.”

“Richard,” she interrupted firmly. “I am exhausted. Your mother keeps calling, demanding I cook for Jason. Do you think that is reasonable

while I am negotiating deals worth tens of millions?”

Her directness caught me off guard. This wasn’t the submissive Grace I knew.

“Your mother says I’m disrespectful, and Jason says I’m putting on airs. So here is the deal, she continued. “Either they apologize, or I will become the full-time housewife they want-and drop all company affairs.

I fell silent. More than half the credit for the company’s growth belonged to Grace. If she resigned from all her positions, I couldn’t imagine the loss it would bring to the company.

“Honey, Mom and Jason are just…”

She cut me off, her voice ice-cold. “Choose, Richard. Do you want me to continue helping you manage the company, or do you want a full-time housewife?”

The power dynamic between us had shifted irreversibly, and I was left speechless.

Richard’s POV

The video call was connecting, and with each passing second, my irritation grew.

“Grace, I began, keeping my voice level despite my frustration. “I understand you’re upset, but you need to be reasonable. You know what my mother is like.”

Grace’s tone remained unchanged. “I believe everyone is capable of change Richard. Even your mother.”

“I need to go. For the sake of our relationship and the company’s future, I hope you’ll reconsider my request,” she continued.

Before I could respond, she ended the call.

“Fuck!” I shouted into the empty room. “What the hell is wrong with her?”

Laura was right, I’ve been too lenient with Grace. She’s becoming impossible.

I didn’t rush to respond to her request. I needed to see if the company could continue functioning without her.

Three hours later, my phone exploded with notifications. The executive group chat was blowing up with messages-all of them panicked.

Emergency meeting. Conference Room A. NOW.

I rushed down the hall, finding most of our executive team already gathered. Their faces told me everything I needed to know-something had gone catastrophically wrong.

“What’s happening?” I demanded, taking my seat at the head of the table.

My assistant pushed a folder toward me. “Three key investors have pulled out. Citing ‘inconsistencies in our marketing strategy’ and ‘concerns about operational stability.”

‘Which investors?” My mouth went dry.

“Blackstone Capital, VentureNorth, and Reynolds Group.’

blood drain from my face. Those three represented nearly 30% of our expected IPO backing.

the fuck did this happen?” I slammed my fist on the table.

The marketing director cleared her throat. “The final proposal documents contained significant errors-the sections Grace was finalizing.”

“Where is Grace?” I looked around the room, suddenly aware of her absence.

“Mrs. Harrison requested time off, remember?” my assistant said quietly. The team tried to correct the documents, but by then, the damage was done. The investors had questions that only Grace could answer.”
