## Chapter 22: Best Gift Ever, Right?
“What are you doing out here?” The maid looked bewildered. “According to tradition, the head of the Lewis family and his bride are supposed to stay in the main residence for at least a few days after the wedding.”
“What? They’re not coming out?” Abigail’s voice instantly sharpened when she heard this.
She’d waited all this time for nothing?
Jackson’s face was equally dark, but he suppressed his anger and said, “In that case, could you please relay a message for us? We are Mrs. Lewis’s parents. Please ask her to come out and greet us.”
“Parents?” The maid sounded like she’d heard a joke. “Our madam only has one guest today, Ms. Amaya
Brooks. We haven’t heard anything about parents.”
“You guys…”
“Besides, if you truly are the madam’s parents, why weren’t you with her at the wedding?”
Abigail and Jackson were left speechless.
They had wanted to be with Britney, but she hadn’t given them the chance.
Both of them, with unspoken understanding, blamed Britney internally. Why hadn’t she told them sooner that if she wasn’t marrying Ryan, she could still marry Camren?
“You two should stop lingering by the door. Our Mr. Lewis and Mrs. Lewis are very busy today. They won’t be
coming out.”
“Please.”
Abigail and Jackson were about to argue further when Ryan’s car pulled out from the side wing, gradually stopping in front of them.
“Mr. Simpson, Mrs. Simpson.” Ryan sneered, looking at them. “Are you two trying to cozy up to my uncle?”
“No, no, no… how could you say that?” Abigail saw Skylar meekly sitting beside Ryan and was afraid their actions would displease Ryan and make her precious daughter suffer. She denied it as quickly as possible.
“We just wanted to understand why Britney could be so heartless, leaving without a word and marrying Mr.
Lewis…”
Ryan scoffed. He had seen plenty of opportunism in their social circle, but he never expected to be at the center of it one day.
“Is that so?” Ryan reached out and patted Skylar’s hand. There was no warmth in the gesture, only a warning.
“I’d also like to know exactly what happened. I hope that when I find out the truth…” Ryan paused for a

moment before continuing, “you two can also come
Ryan didn’t wait for Jackson and Abigail to reply before rolling up the window. “Let’s go.”
The car sped past them, kicking up a cloud of dust that enveloped them, like Ryan’s anger itself.
Abigail, full of worry, chased a couple of steps. “Skylar…”
“Aren’t you embarrassed enough?” Jackson pulled her hand back.
“But what about Skylar…”
“Skylar is smart enough to know how to handle it,” Jackson said, his face grim. “Right now, what you should be worried about is us.‘
“We…” Abigail snapped back to reality, glaring fiercely in the direction of the main house. “It’s all that brat Britney’s fault! She clearly hitched herself to a rich guy but didn’t tell us, and then she conspired with Camren to humiliate Ryan and Skylar.”
“I bet she climbed into that Lewis guy’s bed way early, and she’s holding onto the whole Ryan and Skylar thing just to make us look bad. That’s her intention, pure and simple.”
“The ones you bring back from outside, they just can’t be tamed.”
“What’s the point of saying all this?” Jackson was also filled with resentment towards Britney. “That Lewis guy is clearly protecting her now.”
“So what?” Abigail snorted. “That Lewis guy just finds her new and exciting for now. Give it some time, and he’ll realize that girl has no manners, isn’t presentable, and is disabled.”
“Then, he’ll just dump her.”
“Let’s hope so.” Jackson cast another deep look at the main house before leaving with Abigail.
At this moment, Britney stood in the bedroom of the main house, observing every move Abigail and Jackson
made.
Their resentment, disdain, and contempt directed at the main house were all crystal clear to her.
“Should I invite them in?” Camren stood behind Britney, his voice clear as it reached her left ear.
Britney wondered if it was her imagination, but Camren always seemed to prefer speaking so close to her left ear. What was strange was that his voice wasn’t loud, yet she could hear him perfectly.
Britney shook her head. From the moment she jumped out the window and left the Simpson family, the Simpson family was one entity, and she was another.
Camren didn’t press the issue. He simply took her hand. “Let’s go. They’re still waiting for us.”
“Mm–hm.”

Chapter 22
Britney and Camren went downstairs, and Nelson excitedly greeted them, holding a large box. “Sister–in–law, this is my wedding gift for you and Camren.”
“Didn’t you already send one?” The wedding gift list had been sent to Britney, the hostess, much earlier. The Perkins and Lynn families had sent auspicious jade and jewelry, priceless treasures.
Nelson shook his head. “The ones on the list were for show. This one is something I specially prepared for you both, and it just arrived in my hands!”
“I guarantee it’s perfect for you guys,” Nelson said eagerly, practically shoving the box into Britney’s hands.
“Sister–in–law, hurry up and open it! This is a really practical gift.”
Britney knew that only Camren’s true friends stayed after the wedding. Seeing that Camren didn’t stop him, she opened the box…
*Thump…*
Just as Britney caught a glimpse of what was inside the gift box, Camren quickly slammed the lid shut.
His deep voice was filled with a warning. “Nelson Perkins.”
Nelson shrank his neck but fearlessly continued, “Camren, that’s not fair. These are good things, especially for someone like you who hasn’t ‘opened for business‘ in nearly thirty years.”
“Do you want to be thrown out?” Camren’s eyes narrowed.
“No way!” Nelson’s eyes darted towards Britney. “Sister–in–law, tell me, isn’t my gift super thoughtful?”
Britney’s face was slightly flushed. What was in that box was a bit too… *generous* and a little too
*intimate*…
Some of the small toys, through their packaging, she didn’t understand. But that palm–sized, thin black lace…
she recognized that.
Making her wear that and show it to Camren? It would be easier to just knock her out.
“Don’t mind him.” Camren casually tossed the box into the hands of a nearby maid and pulled Britney down to
sit.
“Yeah, don’t mind him.” Benjamin walked over and also handed a box to Britney. “Sister–in–law, happy wedding.”
“This…” Britney had a lingering fear and dared not rashly touch it.
Benjamin smiled and opened the box. Inside was an exquisite model car and a car key. “This is the model, and the actual car is parked in the Veylin Manor garage. You’ll see it when you go back, Sister–in–law.”
