“Throwing the question out there lets people fill in the blanks.”
This trick had helped Ye Yu solve countless problems, a veritable all-purpose weapon. But this time it seemed to fail.
Han Yuexi snorted coldly, yanked Han Qianzhang by the collar, and said in a low tone “I slept for ten thousand years and no one in the Celestial Realm knew of our relationship. On what basis do you claim someone attacked him because of me?”
Ye Yu’s heart tightened. Damn, had he gone too far?
He forced himself to steady his posture and stared into Han Yuexi’s eyes without flinching. Showing weakness now would be immediately exposed.
Feigning ridicule, he replied “Those who think themselves clever often die fastest. Do you truly believe your relationship could remain hidden from everyone? Or that you can manipulate Heavenly Secrets to block all deductions?”
Han Yuexi fell silent for a long moment, then turned to Han Qianzhang: “Give the Divine Physician a communication stone, then return and wait for me.”
“Oh!”
Han Qianzhang produced a communication stone from his storage ring and held it before Ye Yu with both hands, still supremely respectful.
With a flourish of his sleeve, Ye Yu accepted it, his heart leaping. He must have slipped past her suspicion!
Seeing this, Han Qianzhang prepared to leave, but before departing he added anxiously “Sister, the Divine Physician truly is a good man. You mustn’t give him a hard time!”
“Scram!”
Han Yuexi’s reply was as icy as ever.
Han Qianzhang dared not tarry and hurried away, the divine-seal barrier around them dissolving at the same time.
Ye Yu began to weigh whether to harvest some of Han Yuexi’s negative-emotion points. High-level deities often yielded massive amounts. But after consideration, he abandoned the idea. Though Han Yuexi’s attempt to pluck his demonic horns on their first meeting was forward, she bore him no ill will. Using Flying Waterfall Three Thousand Feet on her would feel inappropriate. On account of their past encounter, he would spare her.
“Huh, why are you coming closer?”
Han Yuexi stepped before him, her tall figure nearly eye-level with his. “Do you have any other matters? Or is there some ailment you wish me to treat?”
Han Yuexi gazed at Ye Yu for a moment, as if seeking a reaction from his expression, but to no avail. Then she departed.
After she left, Ye Yu did not linger; he drifted northward at leisure, though tumult swirled in his heart. Without doubt, that object was the Heart-Union Jade— the immortal artifact created by the Three Corpse Hall’s Demon Lord Tianjun. And yet it lay in Han Yuexi’s possession. No wonder the quantity he’d manifested last time was incorrect—it had been with her.
Did this mean Han Yuexi truly remembered the dream? It must be so. Her lingering gaze before departing clearly sought some answer. If she had no memory, she would not have displayed the Heart-Union Jade to him. The only uncertainty stemmed from the fact that in the dream he had been a demon, whereas now he was a ghostly deity. Damn, why did Han Yuexi retain those memories? In dreams you only keep memories of those you love, right? Had something else changed? Ye Yu could not fathom it.
Meanwhile, Han Yuexi had caught up to Han Qianzhang. The latter hurriedly asked “Sister, you didn’t give the Divine Physician any trouble, did you?”
Han Yuexi shook her head slightly, still fondling the Heart-Union Jade. Reflecting on recent events, she concluded that Ye Yu was not the demon Ye Yu from the dream—perhaps only a lookalike. After all, one’s race could never change! Having settled this thought, she calmed her mind and said softly “Remember that man’s face. If at any time in the future you feel you are losing control, you may seek him. He will help you.”
Han Qianzhang looked puzzled. “Sister, why do you keep saying I will lose control? What does ‘losing control’ even look like?”
Han Yuexi sighed and did not elaborate. Some matters she could not yet explain to him; she only needed him to remember this point. That imposter Divine Physician just might save his life when it mattered most. That was the true reason she spared him.
At the same moment, in New City, the Bone Lady’s shadow began to stir uncontrollably just as she neared breakthrough. The shadow left her body and slowly formed a new entity—a bone-clad woman in full black robes, her features bewitching and sinister. In contrast to the boisterous style of her original form, she exuded chilling coldness. She approached the original Bone Lady seated in meditation, smiled wickedly, and embraced her from behind.
