Whats She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 125

Chapter 125

A brief flash of embarrassment crossed Finnian’s handsome face before he managed a smile. You know how she is. Work is very important to her.

Miles laughed, blowing out a stream of smoke that obscured his sharp features. Yeah, that sounds like something she’d do.

Finnian looked down, taking a deep drag from his cigarette, and didn’t reply.

I’m heading back,Miles said, stubbing out his cigarette. He returned to the private room, grabbed his coat, and left.

Before Finnian even headed back inside, Noelle came out looking for him, holding his suit jacket. Seeing him leaning against the wall, she walked right up and draped it over his broad shoulders. It’s cold out here. You just got over a cold, don’t catch another one.

Finnian offered a faint smile, slipping his arms into the sleeves without saying a word.

Noelle hesitated, the words dying on her lips. She really wanted to complain about what an inconsiderate wife Kaia was.

But Finnian just pinched the bridge of his nose in exhaustion. Let’s go back inside. It’s about time to wrap things up.”

Noelle had no choice but to swallow everything she wanted to say.

As much as she wanted to air her grievances, she knew that saying too much would just make her look petty. It was better to stay quiet.

Since Brynlee was there, Finnian ended the party around ten. His friends began to leave one by one. Noelle stood by Finnian’s side, helping see his friends off before turning to him. You shouldn’t have drank so much tonight. Look, your face is already red. Be careful on the drive back, Brynlee is probably sleepy.”

Finnian nodded. I’m fine, I’m not drunk. You should get some rest too.”

Okay!Noelle said. As she turned to leave, she looked back at him. I had a great time tonight. It felt like years ago.

Finnian paused, then smiled. I’m glad you had fun.

Finnian’s car pulled through the gates and stopped in front of the living room entrance.

A slender figure hurried out of the house.

Kaia opened the back door. Brynlee was sound asleep, warm and snug in Finnian’s arms. Before Finnian could even say a word, Kaia scooped Brynlee out of his embrace.

A deeper wave of exhaustion settled into Finnian’s eyes.

He asked Layla to brew him a cup of soothing herbal tea. As he headed up the stairs, Layla approached him and said, “We’re out of the soothing herbal tea. Ma’am didn’t restock it. But we do

Finnian stopped on the stairs for a second before replying, That’s fine.”

He went upstairs. There was no light shining from under the master bedroom door. He stood there for a few seconds before finally turning away and walking into the guest room.

The heavy silence after a night of celebration made him feel completely on edge.

Morning!

When Finnian woke up, his head still pounded.

He went downstairs, and Layla quickly set out breakfastall of his favorite foods.

Finnian’s gaze drifted absently to the empty space on the table next to him. Usually, on the morning after his birthday, Kaia would leave his present sitting right there.

But today, there was nothing.

Not even a Happy Birthday.

Sensing his mood, Layla spoke up softly. Ma’am and Brynlee left at 7:30. I think she had an early meeting.

Finnian just hummed in response and ate in silence.

He didn’t eat much that morning; his appetite was completely gone.

That afternoon, Finnian picked Brynlee up from school around three. Instead of heading back to corporate headquarters, he drove straight to the Veridian Future office building with her.

Kaia was at her desk working. Seeing the man and her daughter walk in, she only smiled at Brynlee. Did you have a good day at school today, sweetheart?

Yeah! I had so much fun! Anna and I are besties now! I’m her little fan because she sings English songs so well, and she’s my fan because I’m better at drawing than she is.

Brynlee shook her head excitedly, chattering away about all the fun things that happened at school.

Listening to her, Kaia felt genuinely happy that her daughter was making new friends.

Finnian stood off to the side, his eyes locked on Kaia as she squatted in front of their daughter.

She was dressed for work todaya crisp white shirt, gray trousers, and a beige trench coat. Her hair had a few loose strands framing her face, likely from running around all day. She looked completely unadorned, not wearing a single piece of jewelry aside from a simple watch on her wrist.

Yet, she radiated energy. Her eyes were bright, radiating a cool, effortless elegance that commanded the room without saying a word.

Finnian cleared his throat and forced a casual tone. Busy at work today?

Yes,” Kaia replied flatly. Leave Brynlee here with me. You can go handle your own things.

Mom, what’s this?Brynlee had been curiously exploring her mom’s new office when she spotted a velvet box on the desk. She immediately picked it up. It looks like a present! Did Dad give this to you?

Finnian’s gaze automatically shifted over. It was indeed a highend gift box.

Kaia spoke softly. It’s a New Year’s gift from your Uncle Silas.

Oh. Why did Uncle Silas give it to you? Does he like you a lot?Brynlee asked innocently.

Finnian’s eyes darkened instantly.

Kaia smiled. He gave one to everyone in the office, so naturally, I got one too.

Uncle Silas is so generous! I want to find a boss as nice as him when I grow up,” Brynlee beamed, flashing a row of tiny teeth.

Finnian’s gaze deepened as he looked from the gift box back to Kaia.

Seeing him still standing there, Kaia looked up. Is there something else?

No.Finnian’s voice sounded incredibly dry.

Turning back to his daughter, he asked, Brynlee, do you want to stay here, or come play at HQ with Dad?

I’m staying with Mom.Brynlee clung to Kaia’s arm, clearly preferring her mother’s company.

Finnian simply said, Alright,” then turned and walked out the door.

The evening glow slowly faded from the sky.

It was the first time Noelle had taken Elaine Sanders out for dinner since returning to the country.

Elaine looked at the mountain of gifts Noelle had bought for her, the smile on her face growing wider by the second.
