Whats She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 142

Chapter 142

Kaia couldn’t really say no at this point. She smiled. Alright. I’ll come over and take a look at Old Mrs. Quinn’s leg. Mrs. Quinn brought her into my clinic about six months ago, but she hasn’t been back for a followup.

A flash of joy crossed Simon’s eyes. Then I’ll let Anna ride in your car.

Before Kaia could process it, Simon had grabbed Anna’s little backpack and essentially left the girl in her care.

Anna, I’m so happy! We finally get to play together!Brynlee hugged little Anna, practically vibrating with excitement.

Me too!Anna hugged Brynlee back, and the two jumped up and down.

Simon glanced back over his shoulder, noticing Kaia’s helpless but amused expression as she dealt with the two adorable kids.

Kaia drove the girls through the gates of The Quinn Residence. The family had owned the property for generations, a sprawling, classic estate situated right in the city center. Once through the iron gates, the

compound revealed seven or eight large homes, with the Quinn family’s main house sitting right in the middle.

Outside the door was a private, beautifully landscaped garden. It lacked modern minimalism but made up for it with rich, timeless elegance, complete with clearly marked parking spaces.

Kaia opened the car door just as Simon walked over to gather the kids.

He had shed his suit jacket, now wearing a casual, highend knit sweater that gave him an air of relaxed refinement.

No running, watch the steps!Simon didn’t even have time to hold the door for Kaia; he had to jog after the two little girls who were already sprinting inside.

Kaia hurried out of the car and followed him.

Inside the living room, Mrs. Quinn was sitting on the sofa. Eleanor Quinn had also come downstairs to wait the moment she heard Kaia was

visiting.

Kaia, dear, it’s been over six months,Eleanor greeted her with a warm, wrinkled smile.

Kaia immediately offered a polite greeting. Old Mrs. Quinn, Mrs. Quinn.”

Linda Quinn’s eyes crinkled with warmth when she saw Kaia. Kaia, it’s so rare to have you here. I had the chef whip up a few of your favorite dishes.

Thank you, Mrs. Quinn,Kaia said graciously, taking a seat next to Eleanor to ask about her condition.

Watching the scene unfold in the living room, Simon smiled. I’ll go upstairs and see what those two are up to.

Kaia chatted with Linda and Eleanor for about half an hour before heading upstairs herself. She wanted to keep an eye on Brynlee, knowing how mischievous her daughter could be.

She found Simon leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed, watching the two little girls play dressup in the bedroom.

Seeing Kaia approach, Simon immediately pushed open the adjacent door leading to the balcony. Come sit out here for a bit.

Kaia followed him onto the balcony, which had been converted into a cozy sunroom. Simon immediately started preparing a pot of hot tea. Kaia stood by the glass windows, looking out. Everything here seemed exactly as it had been years ago.

As Simon poured the hot water, he also glanced out the window. Still the same. Hasn’t changed a bit.

Kaia sat down, watching Simon rinse the teacups.

Simon looked at her, his voice laced with concern. Balancing being a

technical director while still finding time to see patients at the Holistic Wellness CenterYour twentyfour hours must look a lot different from mine, managing all of that.

Kaia smiled. “It’s not so bad. Corporate tech work can get pretty dry. Sitting in the clinic, interacting with all kinds of patients every dayit’s a good change of pace.

When you were in med school, you said you wanted to do research and save lives at the same time. I thought you were just an idealist. I never expected you’d actually pull it off.” The look Simon gave her held a hidden, complex layer of admiration.

Kaia took the black tea he offered and smiled. Practicing what you preach and finding that balance is definitely hard. But getting to live out my dream makes all the exhaustion worth it.

Simon lowered his eyes, masking the deep admiration and a faint, undetectable trace of regret in his gaze.

Just then, Linda came upstairs to let them know dinner was ready.

The dinner table was spread with a feastdishes the kids loved, alongside rich, comforting homecooked meals. Kaia ate slowly, helping the kids while answering the elderspolite questions.

By the time dinner wrapped up, it was already nine o’clock. Brynlee and Anna were once again inseparable, only agreeing to part ways after promising they could play together soon. Kaia then drove Brynlee back

home.

On the drive, Kaia noticed several notifications on her phoneurgent files waiting for her review.

Back at the villa, Kaia turned to Brynlee. Have Layla help you take a bath and wash your hair. You smell like sweat

Okay!Brynlee chirped, clutching the little gift Anna had given her, humming a tune as she skipped up the stairs.

Layla came over to check on them, and Kaia explained she had urgent work to handle. Layla nodded and went up to bathe Brynlee.

By the time Layla had finished and wrestled Brynlee into her

creamcolored pajamas, Finnian was already waiting in the master bedroom.

Dad!Brynlee was in high spirits, blinking her big eyes and grinning at

him.

Layla, I’ll dry her hair. Go get some rest,” Finnian said, stepping forward.

Of course, Mr. Sanders.Layla quickly exited, leaving the father and daughter to their quiet time.

The low hum of the hairdryer filled the bedroom. Finnian crouched down while the little girl leaned back against the sofa, her head tilted up. She was still clutching a few small toys, refusing to put them down, swinging her short little legs in the air.

Finnian held the dryer at a safe distance, methodically drying her soft

hair.

Dad, do you know where I went for dinner tonight?
