Chapter 16
“Great!” Miles nodded with a smile, handing the flowers to Jane. “These are for you, Jane.”
Jane accepted them happily. “How thoughtful of you.”
Kaia took them from her, thanked him, and went to find a vase for the
lowers.
Miles’s gaze swept over Kaia’s figure. Her light makeup couldn’t hide the race of exhaustion on her beautiful face. Her natural, cool temperament seemed to suit the role of Mrs. Sanders more and more.
Miles discreetly withdrew his gaze and took a sip of tea.
Warren returned with Brynlee, and the small courtyard became even ivelier as more relatives and friends arrived. They filled three tables, creating a bustling, festive atmosphere.
Kaia sat with her daughter beside Finnian. While chatting with others, Finnian naturally peeled a shrimp and fed it to his picky daughter.
To outsiders, they appeared to be a very happy couple. Some of the vomen present envied Kaia for marrying into such a prestigious family and being so respected and cared for by her husband.
The only imperfection was that their daughter was rumored to have a congenital heart condition.
Miles had a couple of extra drinks today. With his heavy workload at the hospital, he left right after the meal. Before he went, he came over to Kaia. “Brynlee has a check–up on Wednesday. Don’t forget. A specialist ‘rom abroad is visiting for a charity clinic, and I’ve asked him to take a ook at Brynlee’s case.”
Kaia immediately stood up, full of gratitude. “Thank you so much, Miles. I’ll bring Brynlee over first thing Wednesday morning.”

Chapter 16
“Good.”
With that, Miles turned to Finnian. “Finnian, I’m heading out.”
Finnian nodded.
At two in the afternoon, Finnian also left. Before he went, he gave Jane a bank card, saying it was a small gift for her father.
Jane took the card but worried her husband would get angry. So, she
called Kaia into the bedroom.
“Take this card back with you. You know your father’s temperament. He’s never been willing to take a dime from the Sanders family.”
Kaia frowned. Finnian had always been generous with money.
However, her father was stubborn. He never accepted money from Finnian, and he never gave a reason. Kaia later guessed it was because he didn’t want people to look down on her in the Sanders family.
‘Okay, I’ll give it back to him.” Kaia hadn’t understood the significance of her father’s insistence before, but now, she was somewhat grateful for it. It gave her one less tie to worry about when making major decisions.
Jane looked at her daughter’s indifferent expression and asked, “You and Finnian barely spoke today. Are you two having problems?”
‘No, Mom. Why would you ask that?” Kaia couldn’t help but smile.
“A mother knows her daughter. Even though you’ve always been reserved, I can tell you’re not happy today,” Jane sighed, her voice full of concern. “What happened?”
“It’s nothing, Mom. Don’t worry.” Kaia didn’t want to upset her parents with her problems. Besides, this wasn’t something she could easily share.
“Alright. You’ve always had a mind of your own, so I’m not too worried. I just fear that you’re suffering in silence and not speaking up for yourself,” Jane said, her heart aching for her.

“Mom, don’t worry. I’m fine,” Kaia reassured her.
She and Brynlee stayed for dinner and didn’t leave until late. By the time they got back to their villa, it was after ten.
As she parked the car, a hand opened the door. Finnian, who had already showered and was wearing a gray robe, gently opened the back door and lifted the sleeping Brynlee out.
“You must be tired after such a long day,” Finnian said, holding their daughter. He stood by the car, looking at Kaia instead of heading inside immediately.
‘Yes. You can look after her tonight,” Kaia said with a smile as she walked toward the living room.
Finnian followed her upstairs with Brynlee in his arms. The little girl was fast asleep.
He gently placed her on the bed, tucked her in, then closed her door and
went into the master bedroom.
When Kaia came out of the shower, she saw him sitting on the bed, reading a book.
‘Why aren’t you in bed yet?” Kaia asked as she rubbed lotion on her
hands.
Finnian closed the book, his deep, dark eyes fixing on her.
‘Are you in the mood tonight?” he asked, his voice dropping to a low, husky growl.
