Kaia paused, her hand holding her fork over her salad.

“Hmph, they’re used to being in control. The moment you try to fight for what you deserve, or refuse to play along with their happy–family charade, they accuse you of being unreasonable and inconsiderate.”

Those words made Kaia’s expression freeze.

The way Finnian defended Noelle was so similar to what Celine was describing.

‘I’m so glad I focused on my career and didn’t have kids. Otherwise, with a child tying me down, it would be even harder to get a clean break. There’s a saying, you know: you can never wake up someone who’s pretending to be asleep, and you can’t warm a heart that’s already turned

Kaia’s gaze fell on her daughter, who was clumsily trying to pick up a rice ball with her chopsticks, her face a picture of innocent, carefree bliss.

Kaia was distracted for the rest of the meal.

But today, she absorbed every detail Celine shared about her divorce process–how to gather evidence, find a reliable lawyer, protect herself inancially, and how to mentally prepare for the judgment and gossip from others. She listened to every single word.

Monday morning.

Inside the Aethelstan Biopharma building, the atmosphere was once again tense and busy.

A rumor was circulating from the HR department. It wasn’t confirmed yet, but someone had seen Noelle go into HR and fill out a resignation form.

Dr. Lawrence came in first thing in the morning and submitted her resignation?

Combined with the recent incident where Kaia had aggressively tried to

take over her project, it was hard not to suspect that Kaia had done something outrageous behind the scenes, forcing the now–unsupported Noelle out of the company.

After dropping off her daughter, Kaia arrived at the office on time. Her assistant, Laura, had heard the rumors and had already gotten into

several heated arguments over it.

Having worked with her for five years, Laura knew Kaia’s character better han anyone.

She had followed every project and knew that the talk of a hostile

akeover was nonsense. It was simply the truth of the matter. But some people didn’t dare to acknowledge the facts and would instead resort to using resignation as a way to play the victim. That was truly shameless.

When Laura brought some documents to her desk, her eyes were red. Kaia asked with concern, “Laura, why are your eyes red?”

The concern made Laura even more upset. “Dr. Chavez, Dr. Lawrence went to HR this morning to resign, and now everyone outside is saying you forced her to leave. These people are awful, making accusations without any proof. I argued with a few of them, and they just got worse…” What did they say?” Kaia’s face had already hardened.

They said… they said…” Laura couldn’t bring herself to repeat the hurtful

words to Kaia.

‘It’s okay. Tell me what you heard. I can handle it,” Kaia said, her voice softening.

Laura let out a frustrated sigh. “They said that Dr. Lawrence is like a daughter to the Sanders family, a sister Mr. Sanders grew up protecting.

They’re family. You’re just a wife they brought in. You know how it is, a the end of the day, a wife is just an addition to the family, not a blood

relative.”

‘They also said… that Mr. Sanders married you as a second choice, that it wasn’t true love or anything…”

Kaia: “Is there anything else?”

Laura squeezed her eyes shut and clenched her fists. They said that Dr. Chavez is so toxic and cruel, that’s why she had a child with a heart defect…”
