Chapter 203
Chapter 203
Celine’s eyes went wide. What was the impossibly busy head of the Sanders Conglomerate doing crashing her party?
Finnian had his suit jacket draped casually over his arm. He was just in a crisp white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and the top two buttons undone.
He looked effortlessly wealthy and powerful.
Standing near the entrance, he scanned the room.
First, he spotted Brynlee playing happily with a group of kids. Then, his eyes drifted across the room until he found Kaia, who was deep in conversation with a group of elegantly dressed women.
He was just about to walk over to her.
But before he could take a step, a fierce figure in a bold red dress intercepted him.
“Well, if it isn’t Mr. Sanders. What an absolute honor to have you crash my event,” Celine said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. Still, she waved over a waiter and handed Finnian a glass of champagne.
Finnian took it, maintaining his polite, untouchable demeanor. “I’m just here to find Kaia and my daughter. Apologies for showing up uninvited.”
Celine planted a hand on her hip and let out a sharp laugh. “Did you get a good look at Kaia tonight? What do you think? I designed the dress myself.”
Finnian looked past the crowd, his eyes landing on Kaia, who still hadn’t noticed him.
“The dress suits her perfectly,” he offered smoothly. “Your designs are truly unique, Celine.”
Celine knew he was just being polite. She scoffed, “Are you saying the dress is beautiful, or the woman wearing it?”
Finnian paused, realizing Celine was openly hostile toward him.
Before he could answer, Kaia’s voice cut through the tension. “Celine.”
Caught in the act, Celine flashed an awkward smile. “Kaia, your timing is terrible. I was just trying to pry a compliment out of Mr. Sanders.”
“Let’s not do this,” Kaia said quietly, not wanting to make a scene.
But Celine was still fuming. She raised an eyebrow and went for the jugular anyway. “Our Kaia has the brains, the career, and the looks. I honestly don’t know what’s wrong with some people’s eyesight, choosing to-”
“Celine!” Kaia looked at her best friend, a silent plea in her eyes, and gave a tiny shake of her head.
Celine finally clamped her mouth shut, shooting Finnian a death glare.
Finnian kept that easy, mild smile on his face the whole time, acting as if Celine’s razor-sharp insults were just friendly banter. He didn’t seem bothered at all.

Chapter 203
“Dad!” Brynlee ran over, thrilled, and wrapped her arms around his leg. She looked up with wide eyes. “Did Celine invite you too?”
Finnian bent down, scooped his daughter into his arms, and kissed her cheek. “No, sweetie. Dad was just in a meeting downstairs. I saw Mom was here, so I came up to say hi.”
“Oh! We’ve been here a long time. Mom was just telling me it’s time to go home,” Brynlee said, wrapping her arms around his neck and pouting slightly.
Finnian looked over at Kaia, his eyes darkening slightly. “You’re leaving already?”
It sounded so natural-exactly like the kind of thing a devoted, caring husband would say. To anyone listening, it painted a picture of a perfect marriage.
Kaia met his gaze and answered flatly, “Brynlee has school tomorrow. We need to get home.”
Celine knew Kaia hated these awkward social traps, so she didn’t try to make them stay. “Alright then. Take Brynlee home, and drive safe. We’ll grab coffee soon.”
“Sounds good!” Kaia turned to her daughter. “Come on, Brynlee. Let’s go down to the parking garage.”
Finnian immediately chimed in. “I’ll ride back with you guys.”
“Don’t you still have your dinner meeting?” Kaia replied coldly. “Don’t put off your real priorities. I’ll take her home.”
Finnian heard the finality in her voice and didn’t push it.
He set Brynlee down gently and murmured, “Listen to Mom. I’ll try to be home early.”
Brynlee nodded obediently. “Okay! Don’t work too hard, Dad.”
“I’ll walk you guys to the elevator,” Celine offered.
Kaia and Celine each took one of Brynlee’s hands and walked away.
Finnian stood near the entrance of the banquet hall, watching Kaia’s silhouette until she disappeared from view.
Down in the parking garage, Kaia strapped Brynlee into her car seat. Brynlee immediately started playing with a small toy.
Once Kaia closed the back door, Celine leaned in and lowered her voice. “Is Finnian just putting on a show for everyone? He’s so fake.”
Kaia glanced through the window at her daughter and gave a bitter smile. “He’s always been great at playing the part. I’m used to it.”
Celine scoffed. “Next time, don’t play along. Let him look like an idiot up there on his own.”
“I know,” Kaia agreed. She said her goodbyes, got in the car, and drove her daughter home.
It was past midnight when Finnian finally returned to the house. He glanced toward the master bedroom, consciously softening his footsteps, and quietly let himself into the guest room.
Saturday rolled around. It had been pouring rain since the early hours of the morning.
Whenever the weather turned cold and damp, Josephine’s knees flared up. The family matriarch had

called Kaia first thing in the morning, asking her to bring Brynlee over for lunch and help her with some physical therapy.
Kaia didn’t have any major work commitments, so she agreed.
Packing a few herbal home remedies, Kaia loaded Brynlee into the car and drove over to the Sanders
Estate.
