Chapter 237
Kaia pulled one sheet back and read the fifth clause he had added.
“A one-year trial period for reconciliation. If the relationship does not substantially improve within one year, both parties agree to an unconditional divorce and will expedite all legal procedures without interference. Neither party is permitted to remarry for three years.”
Kaia stared at the addendum in shock, blinking hard.
Finnian leaned back in his chair, spinning the pen lightly between his fingers.
Outside the window, the bamboo leaves rustled in the wind, sounding like fragmented sighs.
Kaia bit her lip and let out a soft laugh. “Finnian, don’t you think this is a bit redundant?”
“Do I?” Finnian’s expression smoothed back into its usual unreadable calm. “I don’t think so.”
Kaia shoved the paper into her bag and stood up to leave.
Halfway to the door, she turned around and held out her hand. “Give me my pen back.”
Finnian stiffened slightly before handing it over.
Three days later.
Inside a luxury high-rise apartment near Veridian Medical, Kaia stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, watching the sunset paint the skyline in brilliant gold.
The view was spectacular, overlooking the entire tech park. And best of all, it was only a ten-minute walk to the Veridian research facility.
When Kaia requested to move into the staff housing, Silas didn’t seem surprised in the slightest. In fact, he had personally marched down to HR, grabbed a key, and brought her over to pick out a unit. Ultimately, he

handed her the keys to a sprawling, over two-thousand-square-foot penthouse.
The interior was ultra-modern and minimalist. She just needed to buy some furniture and essentials, and it would be ready to go.
“So, what do you think? Satisfied?” Silas asked with a smile, having just given her the grand tour.
Kaia turned to him. “You don’t seem surprised that I’m moving out.”
Silas shrugged. “I know who you are, Kaia. You’re not the type to let destiny drag you around. Considering where things stand with him, a separation was inevitable.”
Kaia’s heart skipped a beat. Silas quickly looked away, apologizing. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have said that. Please don’t be mad.”
Kaia smiled. “I’m not. It’s actually really refreshing to talk to someone who gets it.”
Silas looked as though he had just won an award, flashing a slightly awkward smile. “You really think so?”
Kaia looked around the massive apartment. “It’s too big, though. Do you have anything smaller? A three-bedroom with a sunny balcony would be plenty.”
Silas was taken aback. She was the seventeenth richest woman in the country, and she wanted a basic three-bedroom apartment?
“More space just makes life easier, Kaia. I think this unit is perfect,” he urged smoothly.
Kaia was still hesitating when Finnian’s voice suddenly broke the silence in her memory from their earlier negotiation.
Wait, Silas interrupted her thoughts. “The security system here is completely independent from the rest of the building. It’s restricted to your biometrics only. It’s extremely private and safe.”

That was exactly what she needed.
“This elevator goes straight down to the private garage. You won’t have to bump into any other tenants if you don’t want to,” Silas added, offering another irresistible perk.
“Okay, then this actually works perfectly. Why was it designed to be so separate, anyway? Was someone else supposed to move in?” she asked, assuming company apartments usually had uniform layouts.
“Me!” Silas pointed to himself. “But I won’t be living here anytime soon, so it’s all yours.”
Kaia was stunned. Silas had given her his personal sanctuary.
“I can’t take this. It wouldn’t be right to kick you out of your-”
“We’re family, right? Don’t be polite. It’s been empty for six months anyway. All the materials are top-tier and eco-friendly, which is great for Brynlee. Just take it,” Silas insisted quickly, terrified she would back out.
