Whats She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 243

Chapter 243

The Sanders Conglomerate had been swamped with projects lately, and he was managing a million things at once.

As Finnian approached, Noelle took a sip of her drink. Her assistant, Wendy, leaned in and whispered, “Ms. Lawrence, Mr. Sanders came just for you.”

Noelle’s fingers trembled around the stem of her wine glass. Her heart raced, and a soft blush colored her cheeks.

She shot Wendy a chiding look, signaling her not to speak nonsense.

Finnian, dressed in a crisp white dress shirt and accompanied by several top executives from the conglomerate, took a glass of wine and turned to Noelle. “Are you enjoying yourself today?”

Noelle beamed. “I didn’t think you would come.”

Finnian offered a rare smile. “This is the first event you’ve organized. I brought some people along to show our support.”

Noelle’s eyes fluttered. She knew Finnian well-if he didn’t care, he absolutely wouldn’t waste his time at non-essential social gatherings.

His gaze briefly swept over her face before turning toward the R&D team in the distance, his expression darkening a fraction.

Just as Noelle was reveling in her triumph, she sharply caught that split-second search in his eyes. Was he looking for someone?

Who?

Her joy instantly deflated, and she swallowed her wine in a frustrated gulp.

Did he actually think Kaia was going to be here?

Noelle lowered her eyes, a surge of irritation gnawing at her chest.

Halfway through the banquet, the atmosphere was lively and buzzing.

Someone boldly started chanting for Noelle to show off her talents.

“Ms. Lawrence, you personally promised during the project meeting that if it was successful, you’d dance for us to celebrate!”

“You’re a professionally trained dancer. It’s bound to be a spectacular performance!”

Noelle pressed her lips together and smiled, displaying an uncharacteristic touch of shyness.

Out of the corner of her eye, she checked on Finnian.

He was sitting at the main table, quietly conversing with a few board

members, completely unit in

the cheering crowd.

Just then, one of the

directors laughed. “Finnian, Ms. Lawrence is

incredibly talented. Aren’t you going to show some support?”

Finnian finally looked up at Noelle, his tone mild. “Dancing is indeed one of her strong suits.”

Even from a distance, Noelle heard his validation. She immediately stood up, her eyes curving with delight. “I thought you all had forgotten. But since I made a promise, I certainly can’t go back on my word. I suppose I’ll give it a try.”

Wendy hopped onto the nearby stage, grabbing the microphone. “Everyone, give Ms. Lawrence a few minutes to change into her outfit!”

In the dressing room.

Noelle slipped into the custom-prepared, flowing vintage gown she had brought just for this occasion.

It was an ivory dress with sweeping, fluid sleeves. She casually pinned her hair up, securing it with an elegant pearl hairpin.

It wasn’t strictly traditional, but it set the perfect ethereal mood.

Lifting the hem of her skirt, Noelle stepped onto the stage just as an atmospheric, elegant melody began to play over the speakers.

As the music swelled, the rowdy crowd quieted down.

All eyes were entirely captivated by Noelle.

Looking out at the audience, she offered a demure smile before striking her starting pose. She spun gracefully, her sweeping sleeves trailing like flowing clouds. Every movement showcased the flawless precision and elegance she had perfected in her youth.

Applause erupted from the crowd, genuinely amazed that their boss possessed such professional-level talent.

Finnian sat back in his chair, his elbow resting casually on the armrest. He watched the graceful woman on stage, a faint smile of appreciation touching his lips.

Executing a highly difficult backbend, Noelle pressed one palm lightly against the floor, arching backward like a crescent moon.

Just as she prepared to recover her stance, her toe caught on a stray, cylindrical prop on the floor.

Her foot slipped instantly. Before she could even scream, she completely lost her balance.

She crashed heavily onto the stage, letting out a sharp cry of agony.

The room fell dead silent, followed immediately by a chorus of panicked

gasps.

Finnian beat everyone else to the stage. He dropped to one knee, wrapping his strong arms around Noelle’s fragile frame and lifting her up. “Noelle, are you alright?”

Tears welled in her eyes from the sheer pain. She bit her lip and whimpered. “It hurts. It hurts so much.”

Finnian’s voice was tight, vibrating from deep within his chest as he spoke urgently. “Hold on. I’m taking you to the hospital right now.”

Noelle’s face was deathly pale from the pain. She quickly buried her face against his chest, refusing to let anyone see her agonizing expression.

At the hospital.

Inside the VIP suite.

It was well past midnight.

Noelle’s right leg was in a cast. She had severely torn her ankle ligaments and needed to rest for at least six weeks. Her elbow was also scraped and bandaged.

After the treatments, Noelle leaned back against the hospital bed, looking pale and completely drained of energy.

Finnian stepped out into the hallway to take a call. It was Elaine. He thoroughly explained the situation.

Elaine wanted to rush over, but Finnian convinced her it was too late to make the trip, assuring her he would stay at the hospital for the night.

Noelle listened to the man’s words through the crack in the door, her eyes softening as she quietly watched his tall silhouette in the corridor.

After hanging up, Finnian stood outside for a long moment before pushing the door open.
