To outsiders, the caption might seem vague, but Kaia would undoubtedly grasp the hidden meaning.
The lunchbox bore the unmistakable crest of the Sanders estate kitchen. Kaia would know exactly who sent it.
Satisfied, Noelle set her phone down and began to enjoy her lunch.
Right before the workday ended, Elaine called Noelle, essentially telling her to steer clear of the estate for a while. Josephine was in one of her notoriously foul moods, and there was no point in poking the bear.
Playing the role of the perfectly obedient daughter, Noelle kept her voice soft and free of any resentment. She gently promised to do everything she could to avoid upsetting Grandmother further.
When Noelle returned to her luxury penthouse apartment, Mrs. Wagner had already spotless the massive, 3,000–square–foot space.
A hot, home–cooked meal was waiting for her. She had to admit, the arrangement felt pretty good.
As Mrs. Wagner finished setting the table, she turned to head to the kitchen to eat her own portion.
“Mrs. Wagner, come sit,” Noelle called out warmly. “It’s just the two of us. From now on, you’ll eat at the table with me.”
“Oh, Miss Sanders, I couldn’t. That wouldn’t be proper,” Mrs. Wagner stammered, flattered. Her affection for Noelle was already sky–high after the massive cash bonus she’d received that afternoon. Being treated like family was the cherry on top.
Noelle laughed softly. “It’s fine. Honestly, I’m not really a ‘Miss Sanders‘ anyway. If Mom and my two brothers hadn’t taken me in and elevated my status, I don’t even know where I’d be struggling right now.”
At this, Mrs. Wagner quickly corrected her. “In our eyes, you are the true lady of the Sanders family. You’re gracious, generous, and elegant. You have more class than most girls born into high society.”
The flattery did its job. Smiling, Noelle gestured to the chair. “Come sit down. Let’s eat together.”
Mrs. Wagner finally took a seat. Somehow, the conversation drifted toward Josephine. Eating her food, Mrs. Wagner casually gossiped, “A few days ago, the old lady actually had the kitchen staff prepare a special lunch and delivered it to Mrs. Sanders herself.”

“What?” The hand holding Noelle’s fork froze mid–air. She snapped her head up. You’re saying Grandmother personally prepared lunch and took it to Kala?
Mrs. Wagner, assuming Noelle and Kaia were still on good terms, didn’t realize she had just struck a nerve. She nodded eagerly. “Yes! The old lady said Mrs. Sanders has been working so hard and lost weight, so she clearly wasn’t eating well. She had the kitchen stew premium Cordyceps…
Noelle completely lost her appetite. Snatching her phone off the table, she frantically deleted the photos from her social media feed.
Why didn’t you tell me this earlier?” Noelle felt like an absolute clown. She had just
horoughly humiliated herself in front of Kaia.
Noticing Noelle’s sudden icy tone, Mrs. Wagner flinched.
Miss Sanders, you didn’t ask…” she replied, thoroughly bewildered.
Noelle narrowed her eyes, her voice dropping into a stern command. “From now on, the second you hear anything concerning Kaia, you tell me immediately.”
Looking confused but too intimidated to ask questions, Mrs. Wagner nodded. “Yes, of course, I will,”
Noelle took a few forced bites before pushing her plate away. Her stomach churned. A heavy, suffocating bitterness sank deep into her chest.
Josephine personally delivering restorative food to Kaia? That was a level of respect reserved for the most cherished members of the family.
What kind of spell had Kaia cast on that old hag to make her so aggressively loyal?
Regardless of the reason, Josephine’s actions were a blatant public declaration to everyone
their circle about who the true Sanders daughter–in–law was.
The thought made Noelle close her eyes, her chest tightening with agonizing jealousy. Miss Sanders, is the food not to your liking? Should I make something else?” Mrs. Wagner asked nervously, sensing the drastic shift in the room’s atmosphere.
“No. I’ve lost my appetite.” Noelle pushed away from the table and rolled her wheelchair over to the massive wine cooler in the living room.
rs, Wagner scrambled after her, arriving just as Noelle pointed to a bottle of red wine on the dard shelf. “Get that for me.”
Seeing that she was about to drink, Mrs. Wagner panicked, glancing down at the cast on Noelle’s leg. “Miss Sanders, you can’t drink with your injury.”
“Mrs. Wagner… tell me,” Noelle murmured, her eyes glazed and unfocused as she stared blankly at the housekeeper. “Between me and Kaia… who feels more like a true member of
