Whats She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 271

Chapter 271

Chapter 271

Finnian paused, casually tossing his T-shirt aside, and looked down at Kaia. “Yes, Noelle is injured and in the hospital. I took Brynlee to see her aunt. Is there a problem?”

“Did you tell me beforehand?”

Finnian frowned slightly. “She is Brynlee’s aunt. It’s perfectly natural for a child to see her family.”

The words felt like a bucket of ice water, and Kaia’s fury surged.

“Finnian,” she said, suppressing her anger. “Clause four of the

agreement… the specific details regarding visitation rights. I requested that you notify me before taking Brynlee to see Noelle. Did you do that?”

His frown deepened.

“I haven’t signed the divorce papers yet. That is your unilateral demand, and I never agreed to it.”

Kaia froze, suddenly remembering the draft was still sitting in his hands.

Finnian’s voice lowered. “Kaia, I don’t agree with that clause, and I never will. Noelle is the child’s aunt, a member of the Sanders family. It is perfectly reasonable and entirely legal for Brynlee to see her. What right do you have to stop it?”

His righteous, matter-of-fact tone suffocated her.

“Finnian, are you planning to have Brynlee call her ‘Mom’ too?” Kaia bit her lip, staring furiously into his eyes as she demanded an answer.

“You’re being completely unreasonable, Kaia,” he deflected, avoiding the actual question.

“I am Brynlee’s mother. I raised her. I just don’t want her near that woman, and I will do everything to stop it.”

Chapter 271

Finnian’s Adam’s apple bobbed, his tone shifting defensively. “Noelle means no harm. She genuinely adores Brynlee…”

“You don’t get to decide if she means harm or not,” Kaia cut him off. “This isn’t about her anyway. It’s about us. You need to respect my boundaries as a mother.”

“Can you stop being so sensitive?” Finnian’s voice darkened. “Noelle isn’t like that. You need to drop this.”

With that, he turned, grabbed his T-shirt, and pulled it over his head in a frustrated motion.

Kaia stared at his back, her voice icy. “From today on, you tell me before you take Brynlee to see anyone. If you refuse, I’ll go public with the divorce, involve the lawyers, and file for a restraining order.”

Finnian’s dark eyes widened in shock.

“Kaia, you’re out of your mind.”

She met his gaze with absolute calm. “I am perfectly sane. Noelle is one of the reasons our marriage fell apart. I will not allow my daughter to get close to someone like her.”

She turned to leave.

Finnian closed the distance in two massive strides, catching her wrists and pinning her forcefully against the closet door. “Calm down.”

Both of her wrists were trapped in his iron grip.

The scorching heat of his palms, which used to bring her comfort and obsession, now felt like heavy chains locking her in place.

“Let go of me,” she snapped.

“We need to talk this through…”

“There’s nothing to talk about. Let me go.” Kaia struggled, her eyes burning with unshed tears.

But Finnian refused to loosen his hold.

Fueled by sheer rage, Kaia ducked her head and sank her teeth viciously into the back of his right hand.

“Ugh!” A sharp groan escaped him. He never expected the usually gentle Kaia to actually bite him.

The sudden sting numbed his grip, allowing Kaia to slip out of his arms and walk away without a backward glance.

Staring down at the deep bite mark on his hand, where beads of blood were already welling up, Finnian didn’t chase after her this time.

Kaia composed herself before returning to the living room. Just as she arrived, the nanny called them to the dining table for dinner.

“I’ll go upstairs and get Dad,” Brynlee said.

“Don’t. He was just about to take a shower…” Kaia’s heart ached with anger and grievance. She pulled her daughter into a tight hug. “He’s a grown man. He won’t starve.”

Surprised by the sudden embrace, Brynlee immediately snuggled in close, radiating warmth.

Kaia wanted nothing more than to pack up and leave with her child right then, but Grandmother Josephine happened to be walking down the

stairs.

The older woman called out, “Brynlee, bring your mom over to eat.”

“Okay, Grandmother!” Brynlee took Kaia’s hand and led her to the dining

room.

Finnian never came downstairs for dinner. Afterward, Kaia took Brynlee straight back to her own apartment. In the car, Brynlee video-called her father.

His tone on the phone was soft and gentle.

Chapter 271

Time flew by, and soon it was late June. During this period, Kaia and Finnian’s relationship hit absolute rock bottom.

Aside from playing the role of parents in front of their daughter, they rarely saw each other. At the company, Finnian seemed to be

intentionally avoiding her. As the CEO of The Sanders Conglomerate, he could arrange anything he wanted.

Kaia naturally sensed his avoidance, which honestly gave her a lot of

peace.

On a typical Tuesday, an important announcement was issued from the corporate headquarters.

The results for the National Scientific Research and Innovation Award were officially posted. Across the entire conglomerate, Kaia had single-handedly swept four individual awards. There were also two group awards for the conglomerate, and two individual awards for other subsidiaries.

The group award was for the ‘Research on Traditional Formulas and Modern Pharmaceutical Preparations, a project Kaia had led at Aethelstan Biopharma. It was the culmination of five years of her blood, sweat, and tears.
