Chapter 300

Chapter 300

Was this entire family really going to be dictated by one old woman?

Finnian had his driver take him straight to the Chavez residence. Brynlee lit up the moment she saw him, while Jane and Warren Chavez exchanged a loaded look across the room.

“Mom, Dad, thank you for watching Brynlee these past two days. I’m here to take her home,” Finnian said warmly.

Jane immediately countered, “How are you going to take care of her all by yourself? Just let her stay with me.”

“Grandma, Daddy isn’t doing it alone! We can go find Mommy together,” Brynlee chimed in cheerfully, blinking her big, innocent eyes.

Looking at the child’s pure gaze, Jane felt a sharp pang of anger.

A perfectly good family was on the verge of collapsing. If they were handing out blame, Jane believed both of them carried it.

Kaia had charged headfirst into a blind marriage, and Finnian had never been ready to be a husband. Two people with absolutely zero emotional foundation-how on earth did they end up bringing a child into this?

Jane distinctly remembered lecturing her daughter endlessly back then. She had told Kaia to just enjoy her marriage for what it was land to keep herself on birth control. Bringing a life into the world required massive responsibility.

But Kaia hadn’t listened to a word. Less than a year in, she was pregnant.

Finnian had actually been ecstatic about the baby. During Brynlee’s earliest years, they genuinely looked like a complete, happy little family. The in-laws were reasonable, the elders were supportive, and aside from Brynlee’s congenital heart defect, there was absolutely nothing to worry about.

“Finnian, are you in a rush to leave?” Jane had hit her limit. She had once adored this incredibly capable, polite con-in-law, but now the sheer sight of him made her physically sick.

“No, Mom. I’m not in a rush,” he smiled.

“Then step outside for a moment. I need a word with you.”

Jane walked out into the yard first. A flicker of unease crossed Finnian’s eyes, but he followed her out.

“Mom, what did you want to talk about?” He always maintained utmost respect for his mother-in-law.

Jane stopped and turned around, her gaze stripping away all pleasantries.

“Finnian, I want to talk about you and Kaia.”

Finnian stiffened, his Adam’s apple bobbing sharply.

“Alright. Go ahead.”

Jane didn’t mince words. “Kaia already discussed the divorce with us. Have you made a decision yet?”

The bluntness caught him entirely off guard.

Γ Jane stared him down. When he remained completely silent for several seconds, she pressed on. “After everything that’s happened, do you genuinely believe this marriage can continue?”

“Mom, Kaia is the one pushing for a divorce. I have zero intention of signing.” A rare trace of genuine grievance slipped into his voice.

Jane practically rolled her eyes, turning her back to him. “Fine. You won’t give me a straight answer, but I still have a few things to say.”

“Kaia is my daughter. I know exactly who she is. She has been fiercely proud and independent since she was a little girl. But after-marrying you, she became a completely different person. She swallowed every

injustice, quietly carried the weight of the world, and only ever told us the good news while hiding all the bad. But… she is my child. I will not sit back and watch her completely obliterate her own boundaries just to survive a miserable marriage.”

Jane’s eyes were blazing red with fury as she spun back around to face him, drowning in sheer disappointment. “As her mother, there is absolutely nothing I can do to help her. I just have to watch my daughter consume herself alive. Finnian Sanders, if you have a single shred of humanity left in you, you won’t trap her here.”

“Mom, I…”

“Let me finish.” Jane wiped her eyes, cutting him off instantly. “We are all civilized adults here. I won’t curse you out, mostly because I know it’s completely useless.”

Finnian’s handsome face went deathly pale. He lowered his head and kept his mouth shut.

Jane closed her eyes, forcing her temper down. “Look at the two of you now. Separated, engaging in a cold war. You even vanish when she’s admitted to the hospital. Finnian, what do you want me to call you? What does being a husband mean to you? When she needs you the most, you are nowhere to be found. You are utterly incapable of fulfilling a husband’s most basic duties.”

His expression contorted, and he opened his mouth, but no words came

out.

“You don’t have to explain yourself to me.” Jane held up a hand. “And I don’t care who turned you into such a cold-blooded bastard. All I want to know is what you plan to do next.”

Finnian pressed his lips into a hard line. After a suffocating silence, his voice came out utterly wrecked. “Mom, I won’t trap her. But Brynlee is still so young.”

“Yes. The child is an entirely different issue, and she is the most crucial

part of this.” Jane lost a bit of her composure, nodding. “As parents, the Child absolutely comes first. But… you still need to act fast. If you don’t love my daughter, set her free. She’s young. She can start over. I want her to come back home to me.”

It felt like a physical blow to Finnian’s chest. His fingers instinctively curled into fists.

The moment he signed those divorce papers, Mrs. Sanders would instantly revert to Dr. Chavez.

“Of course, given Brynlee’s condition, I completely understand if you two can’t finalize a divorce immediately to protect her emotional state. Which is why I have a second option.” Jane wiped away another tear, locking eyes with him. “If you truly can’t divorce right now, then sign a Marital Separation Agreement.”
