Whats She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 302

Chapter 302

“Fine,” Kaia replied simply and ended the call.

Late that night, Brynlee woke up crying. Finnian couldn’t soothe her, forcing him to call Kaia again. It took a long conversation to finally coax the little girl back to sleep.

The next morning, Kaia texted Finnian, demanding he bring Brynlee over immediately. She missed her daughter terribly.

Finnian replied with a brief acknowledgment but made no move to drop

the child off.

Around nine o’clock, Layla stepped out to grab groceries. Kaia’s phone buzzed. It was Simon Quinn. He was downstairs.

Kaia buzzed him in. He walked through the door carrying a basket of fruit and a few gifts, his eyes immediately dropping to her injured leg. The bandages were gone, replaced by a simple gauze patch. She could walk fine, though strenuous activity was out of the question.

“Sorry for dropping by so late,” Simon said softly.

Kaia blinked in surprise, then smiled. “How did you know I was hurt?”

He set the gifts on the counter, his voice low. “My mother told me. I was out of the country and just landed this morning.”

Kaia stared at him. He had come straight here? Had he even slept?

“Simon, did you fly a red-eye without getting any rest?” It felt incredibly reckless of him.

“I’m not tired,” he replied with a soft smile, though the dark circles under his eyes betrayed him. He looked like he could pass out the second he hit a mattress.

“Stay for lunch,” Kaia offered. “There’s a daybed in my study. Go lie down.”

“Are you sure?” His eyes widened slightly before a warm smile touched his lips. Til take you up on that, then.”

Kaia opened the study door and gestured to the small bed. “Get some sleep. Don’t run yourself into the ground.”

“Doctor’s orders,” Simon chuckled softly. He walked over, lay down fully clothed, and was asleep within minutes.

Kaia gently closed the door, leaving him in peace. She headed to the kitchen to brew some coffee, sliced a plate of fresh fruit, and then settled onto the sofa with her laptop to catch up on some work.

Around ten-thirty, Layla returned. Trailing behind her were Finnian and Brynlee.

The moment Kaia saw her daughter, her heart melted. The little girl was clinging to Finnian’s shoulder, her eyes red and her cheeks stained with dried tears. She looked utterly miserable.

Finnian hadn’t come empty-handed; he carried a bag of groceries and gifts.

“Mommy!” Brynlee sobbed the second she saw Kaia.

Kaia rushed forward, pulling her into a tight hug. “Oh, sweetheart, why are you crying?”

“I missed you,” Brynlee sniffled, burying her face in Kaia’s neck. Kaia rubbed her back, whispering soothing words.

Finnian stood in the living room, watching them. It hit him then-a child could survive without her father, but she could never be separated from

mother. A sudden wave of hesitation washed over him, making the

pect of divorce feel even heavier.

la quickly stepped in to break the tension. “Mr. Sanders, will aying for lunch? I’m just about to start cooking.”

‘Daddy, don’t leave,” Brynlee pleaded, looking up at him.

Finnian’s expression softened. “Alright. I’m not going anywhere. Layla, Count me in.””

Just as Layla turned toward the kitchen, Kaia spoke up. “Layla, make enough for one more.”

Layla paused. “Are you expecting a friend, Kaia?”

“He’s already here,” Kaia replied casually. “He’s sleeping in my study.”

Brynlee’s teary face instantly lit up with curiosity. “Mommy, who is it? Do I know him?”

Seeing her daughter’s mood shift, Kaia smiled. “You do. It’s Mr. Quinn,

Anna’s uncle.”

The atmosphere in the room plummeted. Finnian’s handsome features darkened like a brewing storm.

“Simon Quinn is in your study?” The edge in Finnian’s voice was unmistakable.

Kaia completely ignored his murderous glare. “Yes. He came to check on me early this morning. He flew all night and was exhausted, so I told him to get some rest.”

Finnian felt as though he had been struck by lightning. It was impossible

not to care.

Just last night, Jane and Kaia had pushed him to sign an agreement promising not to interfere in each other’s social lives. And this morning, Simon Quinn was sleeping in Kaia’s apartment. It was blatantly obvious that the clause had been drafted specifically for this moment.

Did Jane know about Kaia and Simon? Were they trying to phase him out as a husband completely?

Feeling the weight of Finnian’s predatory gaze, Kaia shifted uncomfortably and carried Brynlee into the master bedroom.

Chapter 302

Finnian was left standing alone in the living room. He slowly raised his

eyes, glaring at the closed door of the study.
