Whats She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 31

Finnian froze for a second. He quickly shifted all the bags into one hand and used his free arm to gently scoop his daughter up.

Kaia and Miles turned to look at the scene.

Noelle’s long hair looked slightly messy, but it was clearly a styled, effortlessly delicate look. Her makeup highlighted a fragile, almost sickly kind of beauty.

Kaia, what are you and Brynlee doing here?Noelle walked over with a natural, pleasant smile.

Kaia’s eyes flicked from Finnian to Noelle’s soft, smiling face.

Finnian quickly explained, Noelle’s stomach was bothering her last night, so we came in for some tests.

I kept telling him I didn’t need to come, but Finnian dragged me here anyway. They even took two vials of blood,Noelle complained playfully. Then, her eyes shifted to Miles with a teasing smile. Miles, your hospital’s equipment just keeps getting fancier.

Miles watched the interaction and, honestly, felt entirely thrown off.

If the little girl hadn’t just yelled Daddy, anyone looking at this scene would have assumed Finnian and Noelle were the married couple.

How were Brynlee’s test results? I called earlier but you didn’t answer.Finnian looked at Kaia, his tone laced with genuine concern.

Everything is fine,Kaia replied coolly.

That’s good.Finnian looked down at his daughter’s face with a soft smile. Are you heading home now?

Kaia was about to speak when Noelle suddenly pressed the back of her hand to her mouth and coughed weakly. Finnian, you should take Kaia and Brynlee home. I’ll just grab a cab.

Finnian’s deep voice carried a note of strict reprimand. Why didn’t you bring your maid to look after you? Look at the state of youhow could I possibly let you go home alone?

A flash of rebellious annoyance crossed Noelle’s pretty eyes. I promised you I wouldn’t drink, okay?

And what good is a promise?Finnian scolded her seriously. Throw out all the alcohol and cigarettes at your place. If I find either of those things in your house next time, I’ll

You’ll what?Noelle tilted her chin up proudly, looking at Finnian with defiant eyes. Spank me like when we were kids? Or make me stand in the corner and think about what I’ve done?

Finnian sighed, looking as if he simply couldn’t handle her.

Brynlee, come to Mommy.Kaia couldn’t stomach listening to another second of this. She could hear exactly how much deep, protective affection was hidden in Finnian’s sigh.

Brynlee blinked her big dark eyes and reached out, transferring from her dad’s arm back into her

mom’s.

You should take her home. I’m taking Brynlee to get something to eat. With that, Kaia turned and started walking toward the exit.

Finnian stepped forward, wanting to follow her, but Noelle laughed lightly. Finnian, you’re going the wrong way. Our car is parked in the basement.

Finnian stopped, remembering.

Hearing this, Miles said to Finnian, You take Noelle home. I’ll go check on Kaia and Brynlee.

Alright. Thanks for handling Brynlee’s checkup today.Finnian nodded, then turned and headed

toward the elevators with Noelle.

Miles quickly caught up to Kaia and her daughter with his long strides.

Do you want to grab lunch together?Miles asked. We could use the time to go over the clinical project we discussed last time.

Remembering how he had carved out time from his busy schedule to personally handle Brynlee’s checkup, Kaia agreed. My treat, then.”

Sounds good.

Miles smiled, not bothering with the usual polite arguing over the bill. There’s a great spot nearby.

Let’s drive over.

The restaurant was tucked away on a quiet, treelined street next to the hospital. The atmosphere was peaceful, making it perfect for families.

Miles was a regular. He gave a few instructions to the waiter upon entering, and Kaia settled into a small private booth with her daughter.

As they ate, Kaia and Miles discussed some medical industry news and the projects Kaia was currently pushing forward. Neither of them mentioned Finnian or Noelle. Eventually, the conversation shifted fully to business.

I forgot to bring the hard copy of the proposal today, but I’ve updated the draft based on our last conversation.” Kaia pulled out her phone and sent the file to Miles. I just emailed it to you. Take a look, and we can schedule a time to go over the specifics.
