Chapter 315
She blinked in surprise and pushed herself up into a sitting position.
The AC is pretty strong in here. Didn’t want you catching a cold,” Silas’s
ice floated from behind her.
aia rubbed her stiff neck and turned around. Silas was leaning back in a chair.
The morning sun spilled through the window, bathing him in a warm, golden light. It made him look approachable, yet undeniably magnetic. “Uncomfortable?” he asked, his tone laced with concern.
“I’ll be fine once I stretch,” Kaia said, standing up and working the kinks out of her arms and legs.
Silas set down the file he was holding and crossed his arms, letting out a soft sigh. “Why push yourself until 2 AM for Aethelstan’s project?”
Kaia paused and looked at him. She smiled softly. “I’m not doing it entirely for Aethelstan…”
Silas caught the implication. He lowered his gaze, his long lashes casting shadows that hid the sudden swirl of emotion in his eyes.
Right. Even though Kaia was demanding a divorce, Aethelstan was like a child she had helped raise. She felt a sense of responsibility. And, of course, there was Finnian…
Silas stood up. “I’ll keep an eye on things here. Why don’t you go home, take a shower, and come back?”

office. Silas seemed to have a lighter schedule that day, so he accompanied her to the cafeteria for lunch.
While they were eating, they ran into Susan Sanders, Silas’s aunt, who worked in Aethelstan’s Human Resources Department.
Spotting them, Susan immediately grabbed her tray and sat down at their table.
“Aunt Susan,” Silas and Kaia greeted her in unison.
Susan eyed Silas while picking at her food. “Silas, you’re twenty-seven this year, right? Found a girlfriend yet?”
Silas’s hand stiffened on his silverware. He shot a quick glance at Kaia. “No. I’m too busy. I don’t have the time.”
Susan beamed at him. “Are you really too busy, or do you just not want to date? Your parents are getting anxious. They even asked me to keep an eye out for a nice girl for you.”
“Aunt Susan, please don’t. I have no intention of ruining a good girl’s life,” Silas said. The absolute last thing he wanted was to be set up on blind
dates.
“Kaia,” Susan turned to her, “I know this kid is technically your boss now, but you’re still his sister-in-law. If you know any outstanding young women, you should introduce him.”
Γ
Susan had always liked Kaia. She respected her technical brilliance, her low-drama attitude, and her approachable nature. Even when Kaia was at Aethelstan, Susan had greatly admired her.
Kaia smiled between bites. “I actually do know a few great single women. But I’m afraid his standards are too high, and it would just be a waste of everyone’s time.”
Hearing Kaia genuinely consider setting him up, Silas’s jaw clenched tightly. A flash of bitter disappointment crossed his eyes.

“I’m done eating,” Silas announced abruptly, standing up. “I’m heading Back to Veridian. You two enjoy And for the record, I don’t do blind dates. I’ll find someone myself”
Susan frowned as she watched his tall figure walk away, shaking her
head. “Kids these days. Their standards are in the stratosphere. But then again, Silas is exceptional. An average girl really wouldn’t be a match for him.”
Kaia nodded. “He is exceptional. If he wants to find someone on his own, we should probably just let him be.”
“I guess. I just wonder if he already has someone in his heart and is keeping it a secret,” Susan mused, looking skeptical.
Kaia paused, her gaze drifting toward the door Silas had disappeared through.
“A man his age is in his prime. He’s got strong needs. Why wouldn’t he be looking?” Susan leaned in, lowering her voice, treating Kaia like an old friend. “He definitely has feelings for someone.”
Kaia felt a sudden flush of heat creep up her neck. She had never discussed something so intimate so casually before.
Noticing Kaia’s slight embarrassment, Susan laughed. As a woman nearing forty, she was entirely comfortable discussing romance and intimacy. “Don’t mind me, Kaia. You’ve been married for years, so I figured we could talk freely.”
“It’s fine,” Kaia smiled, pushing away the sudden, unbidden memories of Finnian’s intense physical appetite from two years ago.
She forcefully shoved the thoughts down.
When Kaia returned to the conference room, the team was still on their lunch break. Her phone buzzed with a text from Silas.
“It’s the anniversary of Noelle’s father’s death in five days. She goes to the temple every year to pray. Do you think my cousin will go with her this

time?”
Kaia stared at the screen, momentarily stunned. She actually knew about the anniversary, and she knew Noelle had a habit of going up the
mountain.
She didn’t reply.
A moment later, Silas sent another video file.
