Chapter 317

Pearl and David scrambled to their feet, their faces split into wide, sycophantic smiles. “Mrs. Sanders! Mr. Sanders! Please, have a seat.”

mostly just venting, not expecting anything to come of it.

Noelle had been trying to help him secure contracts, which had kept the business afloat for the past few years.

Finnian set down his chopsticks and looked at David. “Send your company portfolio to my office tomorrow. If there are suitable projects, I’ll allocate some resources your way.”

David froze, utterly stunned.

Pearl gasped in shock, before her face broke into a massive, triumphant grin.

Noelle turned to Finnian, secretly tugging at his sleeve under the table. “Finnian, you really don’t have to-”

“It’s only right,” Finnian said smoothly, holding her gaze. “Pearl is your mother, which makes the Shaws your family. Since we’re all family, it’s only natural to help out with business.”

Noelle flinched visibly at the word ‘family’.

She wanted absolutely nothing to do with the Shaws. The Sanders family

was her real home.

“Thank you, Finnian. I’ll toast you on David’s behalf,” Noelle said quickly, playing the role of the sweet, obedient girl as she raised her glass.

David leaped to his feet, grabbing his own glass so fast that wine sloshed over the rim.

“Mr. Sanders, I cannot thank you enough. I’ll drink the whole thing, you take as much as you like!”

He tipped his head back and drained the glass in one go.

Finnian took a polite sip. He turned back to Noelle. “You’ve been working late a lot recently. Your health is fragile. Skip the alcohol and just drink tea.”

Noelle lowered her head, her ears burning red.

His care was always like a gentle rain-subtle, perfectly timed, and deeply comforting.

Pearl absorbed the entire interaction, her heart soaring with unimaginable joy.

So the rumors were true. People didn’t just invent these things out of thin air.

Elaine, however, didn’t suspect a thing. She saw Finnian’s attentiveness as nothing more than a brother looking out for his sister. It was a dynamic she had watched play out for years, so she thought nothing of it.

As the night wore on, David got incredibly drunk. He babbled about business strategies, grand visions for his company, and how he would dedicate his life to repaying Mr. Sanders.

Finnian leaned back in his

As they washed their hands, Pearl leaned in close, lowering her voice. “Noelle, he treats you so incredibly well. Coming to dinner, throwing resources at our family… You won’t find another man like him.”

Noelle’s expression tightened. “We’ve always been like this. It’s nothing unusual.”

Pearl paused, then bearned even wider. “Really? That’s amazing. Treating you like royalty is just his habit.”

daughter.

The dinner wrapped up just past nine.

At the entrance, David was so drunk he couldn’t stand straight, leaning heavily on the valet.

“Mr. Sanders, drive safe! You must come to our house for dinner sometime, I’ll roll out the red carpet!”

Finnian offered a tight nod.

Elaine rode home in Noelle’s car, while Finnian climbed into the back of his black Bentley.

The next morning, outside the Aethelstan lab, Brynlee pressed her little face against the glass window, standing on her tiptoes. Her pigtails bounced as she giggled, trying to peer inside.

Kaia was mid-conversation with a
