She wore a sharply tailored ivory skirt suit today, her long hair elegantly pinned back. She exuded a confident, unhurried aura, radiating the authority of a true executive
Her gaze swept across the conference room, pausing for half a second when it landed on Kaia.
Kala looked right back, catching the fleeting, sharp glint of a victor deep in her eyes.
Finnian hadn’t come. His chief assistant sat silently beside Noelle, sending an unspoken signal of his
support
Noelle’s opening remarks were concise and powerful as she listened to the departmental reports in her new capacity as the head of the company.
Halfway through the meeting, Noelle, adopting the polite tone of a new leader, put Kala on the spot. “With the recent personnel changes, Dr. Chavez will be leaving Aethelstan to oversee all research matters at the newly established Veridian Future. As a top–tier research expert like Dr. Chavez, no matter where you are stationed, Aethelstan still hopes to collaborate more deeply with you to unearth potential technologies and projects. What do you think, Dr. Chavez?”
Everyone looked at Kaia.
Kala set her pen down and met Noelle’s gaze, her voice steady. “You’re too kind, Ms. Lawrence. Veridian is a subsidiary of The Sanders Conglomerate, so we will naturally align with the strategic deployments of both the conglomerate and Aethelstan. For promising projects, I am more than willing to provide professional and technical support. The specific collaboration processes can be handled by our respective teams later according to company protocols.”
Kaia’s answer was strictly business, completely stripping away any personal relationship.
The expressions of those present showed a hint of surprise.
Maintaining the smile on her face, Noelle nodded. “Then I look forward to our future collaborations.”
After the meeting adjourned, the crowd filed out.
Surrounded by several senior executives, Noelle walked past Kaia,
She told the executives, “I’m going to have a quick word with Kaia.”
The others left. Inside the conference room, Noelle suddenly reached out and grabbed Kaia’s fingers. “Kaia, are you mad at me?”
Kaia subtly pulled her hand away. “How should I address you now?”
Noelle looked taken aback, then burst into a laugh. “Just call me by my name. There’s no need to call me ‘sister–in–law‘ anymore. Since Rafael passed away, there is no sister–in–law in the Sanders family.”
Kaia stared into Noelle’s eyes for a moment. “I have things to do, I’ll be taking my leave.”
“Kaia…” Noelle suddenly stepped forward, grabbing her arm. “I know you’re angry, but can you please forgive me? My hands were tied. Finnian was the only one who could read my helplessness and panic. I’m truly thankful…”

Chapter 41
“I don’t know what you did wrong, or why you need to be forgiven,” Kaia said, turning and walking out of the conference room.
At the door, she saw Gordon Hayes.
The look Gordon gave her seemed to carry a trace of coldness.
After Kaia left the room, Noelle walked out, her eyes slightly red.
Catching the shift in her mood, Gordon asked in a low, concerned voice, “Ms. Lawrence, are you alright?”
Noelle forcefully reined in her emotions and spoke to Gordon in a professional tone. “From now on, you will take over the projects Kaia was handling. Remember, you’re the only one I can rely on moving forward.”
Gordon understood the weight of her words.
“Understood.” Gordon turned and left.
Several days later, Veridian Future was actively preparing its launch inside a high–rise owned by The Sanders Conglomerate in the emerging tech park.
After parking her car, Kaia stepped into the company’s lobby.
In a meeting room on the first floor, Silas had taken off his suit jacket. Dressed in a black
button–down shirt, he sat in a relaxed, almost cynical posture in front of a massive whiteboard, while several core members discussed industry maps and project charts.
Kaia had been called over for a meeting and hadn’t expected to walk into this scene.
“Kaia, you made it,” Silas said, looking at her with a smile.
Kaia took a seat at the corner of the conference table. Silas’s tone turned serious and respectful. “This is the technical assessment for the first batch of potential projects. I’m leaving it entirely in your hands.”
