Chapter 417
Finnian poured her a cup of tea, then picked up the prepared documents Testing on the table and gently slid them in front of her. “I made some revisions to the last agreement. Take a look.”
Kaia ignored the tea and picked up the papers. The first few pages were largely identical to her original draft-the division of assets, custody arrangements, rights, and obligations remained as she had outlined.
It wasn’t until she reached the fourth page that her expression shifted.
She looked up at Finnian. He was already watching her, his dark eyes entirely unreadable.
Kaia frowned. Finnian had added several massive stipulations to her original draft.
The independent intellectual property rights to the Veridian R&D center, a significant chunk of equity in the parent conglomerate, and a colossal rust fund she hadn’t seen before.
She couldn’t help but ask, “Is this portion for me?”
Finnian’s gaze dropped to the contract, and he nodded. “The trust fund is For Brynlee. Her education, medical expenses, and living costs will all be covered by it.”
Kaia nodded, staring at the sheer size of the fund. He was offering magnitudes more than she had ever anticipated.
ľ
‘Finnian, you don’t need to give me all of this. A reasonable settlement is enough.”
A faint, bitter smile touched Finnian’s lips. “You earned it. You spent seven years at Aetheistan, and you built the R&D center from the ground up. Now, you’ve transferred to Veridian to spearhead their R&D as well. You’ve made monumental contributions to both companies, and you deserve every piece of this equity. As for the trust fund, Brynlee is my only daughter. I absolutely will not let her suffer.”
Kaia stared at him. His deep, somber gaze held emotions she couldn’t
quite décipher.
But judging by his demeanor, he seemed to have finally thought things through, exhibiting a newfound understanding and acceptance.
“Rest assured, after everything we’ve shared, I’m not going to let you walk away with nothing.”
Kaia didn’t reply. She simply lowered her head and continued flipping hrough the pages.
She meticulously reviewed every single clause. Once she finished, she closed the folder and said, “I want my lawyer to look this over. I’ll get back to you.”
Finnian nodded, raising no objections. “Alright. If everything looks good, ust sign it. I’ve already signed my part.”
Kaia paused. Flipping to the last page, she saw his bold signature anchored at the bottom.
The handwriting hadn’t changed in seven years-it was identical to the stroke of the pen on their marriage certificate.
A wave of self-mockery washed over her. Back at the registry office, she ad genuinely believed she was tying her life to this man forever. Now, it vas clear fate had other plans.
Chapter 418
Seeing her pick up the contract to leave, Finnian spoke up. “I’ll have my lawyer handle the actual filing procedures. If you need anything, you can contact him directly.”
Kaia nodded. “Okay. As for Bryntee…”
“We need to fulfill our duties as parents,” Finnian said, a deep furrow forrning between his brows. “Let’s wait until after her surgery to tell her. Or, whenever the right moment presents itself. We’ll let it happen naturally.”
Kaia looked up at him as he leaned back heavily into his black leather
executive chair.
It sounded entirely reasonable, so she nodded. “Alright, we’ll do it your
way.”
Finnian’s gaze lingered on her. Just as she was about to walk out, Kaia suddenly stopped and turned back to face him. “Thank you.”
Finnian let out a hollow chuckle. “For what?”
“Thank you for not making this process incredibly difficult for me.”
Finnian froze, a flash of unspeakable bitterness crossing his face. “The prenuptial agreement we signed back then clearly stated that we would dissolve the marriage amicably. I’m simply honoring the contract.”
Kaia nodded. There was truly nothing left to say. She turned, pulled the door open, and walked out.
Finnian watched her walk away without a shred of hesitation. The composure he had maintained while seated abruptly shattered as he stood up, his gaze fixated on the closed door.
Kaia was gone.
Stepping out of The Sanders Tower, Kaia was met with a bleak, heavily
Chap
overcast sky that threatened rain. The autumn chill was growing sharper, the wind biting as it whipped around the street corner.
She tilted her head back, glancing at the gray expanse above, before stepping forward. From this moment on, she was back to being Ms.
Chavez.
“Kaia…” A sleek black Maybach suddenly pulled up to the curb right in front of her. Silas stepped out of the car, catching her off guard.
‘Did Finnian call you over for something important?” Silas asked as he approached her.
If it had been about business, Silas would have undoubtedly been in the oop. The fact that he didn’t know meant it had to be a private matter.
Kaia forced a polite smile. “It was nothing. Just discussing some personal matters. Are you here for a meeting?”
Silas shook his head. “No, I was just running an errand nearby, but I’m inished. Did you drive here?”
Kaia shook her head. “No, I caught a ride with a colleague.”
The drive from The Sanders Tower to Veridian took about twenty minutes, and Aethelstan was at least ten minutes away. In traffic, it would take even longer.
‘I’ll give you a ride back to the office.”
‘Sure!”
Kaia got in and buckled her seatbelt as the car merged seamlessly into the bustling traffic.
Silas kept his eyes on the road, occasionally stealing glances at Kaia through the rearview mirror. Seeing her staring blankly out the window with a profound sadness etched into her features, his jaw tightened. A strange, unnameable tension bloomed in his chest.
