Chapter 434

Chapter 434

Noelle offered a soft murmur of agreement.

Right at that moment, Finnian walked in, carrying Brynlee in his arms. As soon as they entered, the little girl politely greeted all the elders in the

room.

“Brynlee, come over to Grandmother,” Josephine called out. Looking at Brynlee made her think of Kaia, and she glanced toward the door. Seeing no one else walk in, a wave of disappointment settled over her.

Brynlee immediately ran over to Josephine’s side and climbed into the chair next to her.

Josephine reached out and gently stroked the girl’s hair, asking with a warm smile, “Brynlee, sweetheart, can Grandmother ask you a question?” Brynlee nodded happily. “Sure! What is it?”

Josephine pointed toward Noelle. “Aunt Noelle is going to have little

babies in her tummy soon. A little brother and a little sister. Will you like them?”

Brynlee froze. Her large, dark eyes blinked rapidly as she stared at Noelle.

Noelle offered her a gentle, maternal smile, her hand subconsciously moving to rest protectively over her stomach.

Brynlee stared at her for two full seconds. Then, she suddenly spun around, ran back to Finnian, and threw herself into his arms, scrambling desperately to climb up his chest. Finnian caught her, bewildered. “Brynlee, what’s wrong?”

Tears instantly welled up in Brynlee’s eyes, as if she had just been dealt a devastating blow. Her little mouth trembled, and fat tears began rolling down her cheeks. “I only want the little brother and sister that my

mommy gives me!”

The entire dining room fell into a dead silence.

Everyone stared in absolute shock at Brynlee’s sudden emotional breakdown. Why was she crying?

Finnian was entirely at a loss, unsure whether he should laugh or panic. His daughter’s sensitive emotions were truly like the summer

weather-changing in the blink of an eye.

Elaine sat frozen, a piece of meat still clutched in her chopsticks.

Noelle sat rigidly in her chair, the color draining from her face inch by inch. She opened her mouth to speak, but no sound came out.

Josephine stared at the sobbing child, completely bewildered as to which of her words had broken the girl’s heart.

“Brynlee, why are you crying? The babies Aunt Noelle has will be very cute too,” Josephine coaxed with a gentle smile.

“No! I don’t want them!” Brynlee buried her tear-streaked face into Finnian’s shoulder, her little body trembling with sobs. “Daddy promised me! He promised he and Mommy would give me a little brother and sister! You’re a liar!”

Finnian’s heart took a violent, unexpected hit. He suddenly remembered that he had, in fact, promised his daughter exactly that. But how…

Hearing that her aunt was going to have babies must have completely shattered the little girl’s emotional defenses.

The adults in the room were speechless. Was this really something a five-year-old would say on her own? How could she even comprehend these things? Had someone been coaching her behind the scenes?

Seeing Brynlee crying uncontrollably, Finnian quickly scooped her up and headed for the door, whispering softly, “Sweetheart, please don’t cry. Grandmother was just asking. It’s perfectly fine if you don’t want them.”

Brynlee’s small frame continued to shake. She sniffled, looking as though she wanted to say something else but didn’t know how. She just glared at Finnian with red, teary eyes. “I want my mommy.”

Finnian felt as if a sledgehammer had slammed into his chest. He gently patted her back. “Okay, okay We’ll eat dinner first, and as soon as we’re done, Daddy will take you straight to Mommy’s place.”

It took a long time to soothe her, but Brynlee finally agreed to eat. Finnian carried her back into the private room.

Noelle sat at the table with her head bowed. She hadn’t had much of an appetite to begin with, and now she couldn’t stomach a single bite.

Brynlee hadn’t just said she didn’t like the babies-she clearly despised

the idea.

A chilling bitterness swept through Noelle. When Brynlee was younger, Noelle had treated her incredibly well. She bought her beautiful dresses and fun toys, and Brynlee used to wrap her arms around Noelle’s neck and act spoiled. Back then, having no children of her own, Noelle had unconsciously treated Brynlee like a daughter. But looking at it now, it was obvious that Brynlee would only ever love her real mother. No matter how kind Noelle was, it meant absolutely nothing.

Seeing that Brynlee had calmed down, Josephine let out a soft sigh. ‘Alright, let’s just eat. Everyone, don’t take a child’s words to heart.”

Elaine quickly chimed in to smooth things over. “Exactly, exactly. How can we take a child’s babbling seriously? Adding new members to the family is a joyous occasion.”

Noelle’s mood plummeted to rock bottom. She shot a quick, covert glare at Brynlee, who was still tucked against Finnian’s chest. How could such a small child act like this?

Clearly, someone had been teaching her what to say.
