“You need to figure out the Cytogene AG project on your own,” Kaia cut him off. “I looked into it. The project is viable, but you have to manage it personally. Claw back whatever funds you can. Once it’s finished, covering a fifty million dollar deficit isn’t impossible.”

Leo looked at her, his expression desperate. “Kaia, could you lend me a bit more? Fifty million dollars. I’ll write the IOU. The second the project pays out, I swear I’ll pay you back.”

Kaia knew the project required seed money to stay afloat. She weighed her options. “Fine. But remember, you are signing an IOU. You have to pay me back.”

Leo opened his mouth to say something, but swallowed the words. He nodded frantically. “I will. I promise I will.”

“Leo married out of his league with Sophia. That’s the root of his desperation to prove himself,” Kaia pointed out accurately. “He doesn’t want to fail; he’s just in a rush to succeed. But the business world is brutal. The second someone with money lacks self–control, trouble finds them.”

“Let’s just hope he survives this and drops the naive act,” Jane sighed.

“People learn by falling down. He’s tasting the consequences right now. But Sophia asking for a divorce is a massive blow. I just hope he doesn’t crack,” Kaia said, a trace of genuine worry in her voice.

“He deserves it! It’s his own fault. If he had used his brain for two

seconds, he would’ve seen this coming,” Jane scolded, frustrated by her son’s stupidity.

“Let’s stop talking about him. How are things with you and Finnian? Do you need us to help with Brynlee?” Jane asked, pivoting to her daughter’s impending divorce.

“Cytogene AG has a major project up for bidding soon. Finnian asked me to hold off on finalizing the paperwork for a month. We’re both managing Brynlee for now, so you don’t need to worry,” Kaia replied softly.

Warren cleared his throat. “My teaching contract ends next month, and I’m not renewing it. Your mother and I talked, and we’ve decided to move closer to you. It’ll be easier to help with Brynlee, so you aren’t constantly rushing back and forth.”

Kaia’s eyes stung with tears. She desperately needed the help.

“Okay. We’ll go house hunting together. I’m at the Veridian Future apartment now, but it’s temporary. Let’s find a nice neighborhood.” Living closer to her parents sounded incredibly comforting.
