Finnian’s heart jolted violently, like a minor earthquake had struck within him. For a moment, he was completely speechless.

“Noelle, why are you saying all this?” Finnian’s voice deepened with warning. “Don’t forget your place. Never say things like this again.”

Josephine noticed that her grandson seemed to be in low spirits. She figured Kala’s insistence on a divorce had dealt him a heavy blow.

“Your mother is looking after Noelle, so she’s not home either. It’s just the two of us for dinner.” Josephine offered a small smile, a hint of hope in her eyes. “Is Kaia really dead set on this divorce?”

Finnian pressed his lips into a thin line and said, “Yes, she’s very resolute.” “And do you want the divorce?”

“No.” Finnian sat on the sofa, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I don’t think our issues have reached the point of no return.”

“Well, didn’t you bring this upon yourself?” Josephine found it impossible to pity him at this point. She had warned him repeatedly back then, but he hadn’t listened to a single word.

Finnian felt as if he had been struck with a blunt object, completely speechless for a moment. He let out a self–deprecating laugh. “Grandmother, am I really that terrible?”

“As my grandson, you are exceptionally outstanding. But as Kaia’s husband, you lack passion and initiative. Women are highly sensitive creatures; the love they demand must be exclusive and absolute. You… you just don’t understand what Kaia truly wants.”

Josephine firmly believed that the reason his marriage had reached the brink of divorce was that her grandson was emotionally stunted and simply hadn’t invested enough into the relationship.

Finnian couldn’t help but let out a soft scoff. If the person Kaia truly loved in her heart wasn’t him, but Simon Quinn, then no matter what he did, he would never be able to melt her heart.
