Chapter 470

Finnian had just been taught another brutal lesson. He squeezed his eyes shut in pure frustration.

Kaia held her teacup, taking slow, deliberate sips. Suddenly, Brynlee cupped her hand over her mouth, leaned into Finnian’s ear, and whispered, “Daddy, I know the secret between you and Mommy. Don’t even try to hide it from me anymore.”

Finnian’s hand froze mid-air with his fork. He stared down at his daughter. Seeing her daughter whispering to him, Kaia’s heart skipped a beat as well.

Finnian looked across the table at Kaia, his dark eyes questioning. “Oh? What secret did Brynlee figure out?”

Finnian assumed Brynlee might have mistakenly thought he and Kaia were having another baby. He desperately hoped she wouldn’t blurt it out right here and now; that would be incredibly awkward.

“You guys are getting a divorce.”

Finnian was paralyzed with shock. He stared at his daughter in absolute disbelief. Then, his gaze snapped to Kaia. It felt like a massive lump had formed in his throat, rendering him completely speechless.

“Hehe, Daddy, told you! Is that your secret with Mommy?” Brynlee said with a giggle, reaching out her tiny hand to lightly smack his arm. “Bad Daddy, leaving me and Mommy behind.”

A whirlwind of emotions ripped through Finnian’s chest, quickly escalating into a full-blown hurricane, complete with shockwaves. He never expected his daughter to just casually announce their divorce like that.

“But, Anna said that if a daddy doesn’t love a mommy anymore, them

getting divorced is actually a good thing. You probably don’t love

Mommy anymore, so I won’t be mad at you. You guys can get divorced.” Brynlee sat cross-legged on her chair, speaking with the tone of a mature little adult. When she was finished, she looked at Finnian with an air of complete confidence. “Daddy, just remember to come visit me and Mommy when you have time. If you’re too busy, you can always just call me on the phone!”

Finnian sat frozen, staring at the bright smile on his daughter’s face. His heart felt like it was being crushed in a vice.

He had expected her to cry, to throw a tantrum, to cling to him and beg him not to leave Mommy, begging for their family not to be torn apart.

He had envisioned a gut-wrenching, tearful goodbye. He had prepared countless comforting words to coax her, to explain everything, and to shower her with promises and reassurances.

But now…

His daughter wasn’t demanding anything at all. All she asked was that he carve out a little time to call her.

It turned out she was just young, not naive. She was only five, yet she understood everything perfectly.

Finnian reached out, pulled his daughter into his arms, and held her tightly. He rested his chin on the top of her head. Before he knew it, his eyes were red, and a heavy sob caught in his throat. “Sweetheart, I’m so sorry. Daddy messed up.”

Kaia sat across frorn them, watching the father and daughter. She didn’t feel much emotional fluctuation. She simply watched Finnian putting on another performance. Only this time, he had acted his way into red eyes and genuine tears.

“Daddy, are you going to cry? Don’t cry. I won’t blame you. I know you probably don’t like Mommy that much anymore. But don’t worry, Mommy will definitely find a nice man who loves her very, very much. Like… Mr.

Quinn! Or Mr. Kendrick! Oh, and Mr. Sanders too! They’re all really great.” Brynlee patted Finnian’s back with her little hand, offering her comfort.

Finnian’s entire body jolted again. His red, tear-filled eyes instantly locked onto Kaia’s calm, indifferent face across the table.

Did she teach their daughter to say that?

Did she want him to know that the second they divorced, she had a line of suitors waiting for her?

So to her, her ex-husband was just an obstacle blocking her path to true happiness?

She had been dying to kick him to the curb this whole time?

Was that it?
