Chapter 476

Chapter 476

He looked up, his brow twitching slightly as he saw Noelle enter.

He wrapped up the call, placed his phone on the desk, and looked at her.

“Do you need something?” he asked, his tone entirely devoid of emotion.

She instantly felt the shift. In the past, whenever she walked in, he would immediately stand up and greet her with a warm smile.

Now, he didn’t even bother to get up, remaining comfortably seated in his

black leather chair.

“Finnian, can we talk?” her voice was a bit hoarse.

He frowned slightly. “You should be focusing all your energy on taking care of yourself right now. You shouldn’t be wandering around.”

“I’m fine. I just haven’t had much of an appetite lately, so I lost a few pounds. The doctor said the babies are healthy. Once I hit the four-month mark, I should be able to eat normally again. I’ll probably put the weight right back on…”

“Noelle,” he cut off her rambling. “You should be discussing this with Mom. I’m tied up with work. From now on, Mom will do everything she can to help you with the babies.”

“Finnian…” Her eyes welled with tears, overflowing with grievance and quiet resentment.

Seeing that she wasn’t going to leave, he stood and walked over to the sofa. “If you have something to say, sit down and say it.”

She didn’t move. She just stood there, stubbornly pouting like a child.

“Have you been avoiding me lately?”

He remained silent for a moment before answering, “I’m not avoiding you. Work has just been overwhelming.”

She let out a short, hollow laugh that looked more tragic than if she had cried. “You used to be busy too, but you always replied to my messages instantly and answered my,calls. No matter where we bumped into each other, you’d always stop to talk to me. You are avoiding me. Just tell me, did I do something wrong?”

Seeing her tremble, he steadied his breathing. “You’re misunderstanding the situation. You didn’t do anything wrong, and I’m not avoiding you. This is simply the normal, healthy boundary we should maintain.”

“But you’re practically my brother…”

“We aren’t related by blood. I don’t count,” he interrupted sharply.

Noelle froze, her eyes going wide with pure shock. “What did you just say?”

He looked up at her ashen face. “If you were actually my sister, we wouldn’t need to keep our distance. But we aren’t. Even if we both know our dynamic is entirely innocent, outsiders will inevitably jump to wild conclusions. That’s not good for your reputation.”

“So now you want to draw a line in the sand. What about everything before this?”

He stiffened, averting his gaze from her accusing stare and staring at the floor in heavy silence.

“I’ve always wanted to ask you this, but I never found the right time,” Noelle pressed, refusing to let him deflect. She wanted the blunt truth, regardless of the fallout. “When we were younger… did you ever have feelings for me? Even just once?”

Nothing he could say would be worse than the agonizing limbo she was in right now.

The office plunged into a suffocating silence. It was as if Finnian’s vocal cords had been paralyzed. The only sound in the room was the heavy thudding of his own heartbeat.

“I want the truth,” she demanded, locking her eyes on his face. She watched his Adam’s apple bob nervously.

“Yes.” His stark admission stripped all the remaining air from the room.
