Just then, Noelle was wheeled out of the OR. Still under the effects of the anesthesia, she hadn’t woken up yet. Elaine watched her with immense heartache, accompanying the stretcher all the way to a luxury private ward.

Elaine arranged for the estate chefs to prepare and deliver a highly nutritious meal. Leaving Finnian to watch over the room, she escorted Josephine downstairs. Once they were out of earshot, she spoke. “Mom, Kaia is here. She’s down in the parking garage. Let’s go see what she has to say for herself.”

Josephine paused. “Do you really believe Kaia caused all of this?”

“Whenever anyone else speaks to Noelle, everything is perfectly fine! But the minute she pulls Noelle aside for a chat, Noelle gets stressed out to the point of a miscarriage?” Elaine huffed indignantly. “Mom, do you honestly still think she’s innocent?”

It was past four in the afternoon. As Kaia pulled her car into the hospital parking garage, she spotted Elaine and Josephine stepping out of the elevator, with Agnes trailing closely behind.

Agnes, sharp–eyed, pointed them out. “That’s Mrs. Sanders’s car.”

The moment Elaine locked eyes with Kaia, pure hatred radiated from her gaze. She stormed over and barked, “You actually have the nerve to show up here!”

Kaia opened her door and stepped out, keeping a wary eye on Elaine’s arms just in case the woman tried to strike her. “You called me here,” she replied coolly. “I’m here now. What exactly do you want to hear from me?”

“What horrible things did you say to Noelle that pushed her over the edge and made her lose her baby?” Elaine hissed viciously.

“She lost the baby?” Kaia’s eyes widened in genuine shock, entirely unprepared for that piece of news.

“Are you happy now? Are you satisfied? But don’t celebrate just yet. We only lost one fetus. The other is perfectly fine,” Elaine snapped, misinterpreting Kaia’s surprise as veiled glee.

“You shouldn’t be hunting for a scapegoat,” Kaia replied evenly. “I wasn’t the one who initiated that conversation this morning.”

Josephine had already figured it out. The one constantly stirring up trouble had always been Noelle. Kaia was simply too busy and practical to go out of her way to start a fight.
