Chapter 508
Chapter 508
Noelle opened the messages and gasped. It was photos of Kaia and Finnian appearing together at the entrance of city hall.
Noelle’s heart leaped in her chest. They actually got divorced?
Immediately after, a message from her informant followed: “Ms. Lawrence, please check these photos.”
In that moment, Noelle was torn between intense joy and deep anxiety. Finnian had finally divorced Kaia, but because of one critical misstep, Noelle had been banished from the Sanders family home.
“Thank you. The payment we agreed on will be wired to your account right on schedule.” Noelle fired back a reply.
Around eight o’clock that evening, Kaia parked her car in front of The Chavez Residence.
Sitting in the driver’s seat, she looked at the familiar street and the warm, golden lights glowing from the yard. It felt as if a heavy burden had finally been lifted from her shoulders.
She was Kaia Chavez again, utterly untethered from Finnian Sanders.
She got out of the car, grabbed the fruit she had bought, and walked inside.
Jane had just finished feeding Brynlee half a bowl of rice when she heard footsteps outside. She looked up and saw her daughter walking through the door.
“Mom!” Brynlee ran toward her with a bright smile. “Are you off work?”
Kaia reached out and gently cupped her daughter’s little face, her voice soft. “Yeah, just got off. Did you guys finish eating?”
Jane smiled from the side. “We just finished too. We saved some food for you, go on and eat.”
“Okay!” Kaia smiled as she walked further in. Warren Chavez looked at her. “Is the divorce all finalized?”
Kaia nodded. “It’s done.”
“He didn’t give you a hard time, did he?” Warren asked, his tone laced with protective concern.
“No, he was pretty straightforward about it.” Kaia had actually been somewhat impressed by Finnian on that front; she originally thought the divorce would drag out into a massive legal battle.
“I saw Leo’s car outside. Is he back?” Kaia asked curiously.
Jane’s expression instantly cooled. “He’s upstairs. Do you want to go check on him?”
Kaia knew that her brother’s latest failed investment had driven his marriage straight into a ditch.
“I’ll head up and see him.” Kaia turned and walked upstairs. She knocked on Leo’s door. He opened it, looking utterly defeated and having clearly lost weight.
Seeing him like this, Kaia asked softly, “Leo, has Sophia still not forgiven you?”
Leo backed away and slumped into a chair, his head bowed. “She’s so disappointed in me. Maybe I

really am just a total loser. Always aiming too high, always looking for a shortcut. With Sophia’s background, she has so many better options. I shouldn’t be the roadblock standing in the way of her happiness.”
Kaia was stunned. The blow her brother had taken this time was far more severe than any he had
faced before.
Kaia didn’t press him further. She already knew the gist of it. Sophia was demanding a divorce and had moved out of their house and back in with her parents. She wasn’t answering his calls or replying to his messages. Leo didn’t even have a chance to see her right now.
“Just take some time to cool off. I’m going downstairs to eat.” Kaia wasn’t exactly great at giving pep talks, so she turned and headed back down.
At the dinner table, Jane sighed helplessly. “Sophia is a good girl. Your brother just couldn’t step up and keep her. As parents, it’s really not our place to say much.”
Kaia knew her parents were hurting too. Now that she was divorced, if her brother got divorced as well, the Chavez family might seriously need to go check their ancestors’ graves to see if they’d been
cursed.
Kaia just nodded with a small smile. She hated acting like a know-it-all. She believed that her brother’s situation required both parties to calm down before re-evaluating whether their relationship could be salvaged.
Besides, considering she couldn’t even keep her own marriage afloat, who was she to give anyone else relationship advice?
She just quietly kept her head down, eating her food and listening to her mom talk.
Warren had taken Brynlee outside to play in the small neighborhood square. Jane glanced toward the front door, then looked at her daughter with aching sympathy. “Kaia, are you heartbroken about divorcing Finnian?”
